AGENA3000 is a French enterprise-software and data-management group headquartered in Cholet, France. Founded in 1980, AGENA3000 develops software and related services for the exchange, management, enrichment and distribution of business data.[1] Its corporate tagline is "Improve Your Performance".

AGENA3000 primarily works with manufacturers, consumer brands, retailers, wholesalers and their business partners. Its software portfolio includes electronic invoicing, electronic data interchange (EDI), product information management (PIM), product data management (PDM), trade promotion management (TPM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), data-pool services, content management and business-process automation.[2]

AGENA3000 states that it serves more than 8,000 clients, employs more than 250 people and maintains seven office locations across France, Canada, Tunisia, the Netherlands and Romania.[1] The group includes AGENA3000 Data Management, AGENA3000 Inc., PARANGON, Software Factory Tunisia, ConsoTrust, SRC System Integrators and DocProcess.[1]

History

[edit]

Foundation and early development

[edit]

AGENA3000 was founded in 1980. The company initially established its business through enterprise resource planning software intended for companies operating in distribution and related sectors.[1]

After its initial work in ERP, AGENA3000 expanded into electronic data interchange. EDI systems allow organisations to exchange standardised commercial documents, including orders, invoices, shipping notices and inventory information, directly between their information systems. The move into EDI became an important part of AGENA3000’s development as businesses increasingly replaced paper-based commercial processes with electronic exchanges.[3]

Expansion into product information management

[edit]

During the early 2000s, AGENA3000 expanded into product information management. Its PIM products were developed to help manufacturers, brands and retailers collect, organise, validate, enrich and distribute product information through different commercial channels.[1]

The expansion reflected the increasing quantity and complexity of product information required by retailers, e-commerce platforms, distributors and regulatory systems. Product records may include names, descriptions, specifications, dimensions, ingredients, nutritional information, images, regulatory statements, logistical details and market-specific content.

AGENA3000 subsequently developed separate PIM applications for manufacturers, sourcing organisations and retailers. The portfolio also came to include data-pool and content-management services for exchanging product records and producing or digitising product content.[2]

Trade promotion management

[edit]

In 2015, AGENA3000 launched a trade promotion management solution. TPM software is used to manage commercial agreements, promotional activity, customer commitments, forecasts and financial calculations associated with trade promotions.[1]

The product was designed to provide businesses with a more structured method of planning promotional campaigns, following commercial agreements and monitoring financial elements such as rebates and retrospective margins.

Acquisitions in 2018

[edit]

In 2018, AGENA3000 acquired PICXYZ and PARANGON. The acquisitions were intended to broaden its product-information capabilities and reinforce its presence in PIM, product-data quality, visual content and data-pool services.[4]

PARANGON became associated with the group’s product-data synchronisation and data-pool activities. These services support the structured exchange of product information between suppliers, retailers and other organisations in the commercial supply chain.

Expansion into North America

[edit]

In October 2019, AGENA3000 announced the acquisition of Connectivia, a Montreal-based EDI business previously operated as a division of Technology Evaluation Centers. The transaction expanded AGENA3000’s data-exchange activities in Canada and the United States.[5]

AGENA3000’s Canadian activities are operated through AGENA3000 Inc. The Montreal office provides EDI services and support for organisations operating in North American markets.

SRC System Integrators acquisition

[edit]

In April 2024, SRC System Integrators, a Dutch software provider, became part of AGENA3000. The acquisition was publicly announced by AGENA3000 in June 2024.[6][7]

SRC System Integrators specialised in PIM, PDM, EDI, software-as-a-service applications, consulting and software implementation. Its integration expanded AGENA3000’s operations in the Netherlands and added product data management to the group’s wider portfolio.[6]

The transaction also gave AGENA3000 a stronger position in the Dutch market and expanded its ability to support organisations operating across Europe and North America.

ConsoTrust acquisition

[edit]

On 27 May 2024, AGENA3000 acquired ConsoTrust, a French company specialising in artificial intelligence, product-data compliance and the analysis and processing of product information.[8]

ConsoTrust had previously worked with AGENA3000 on product-data quality services. Its technology is used to inspect product information, identify inconsistencies and support the completion or correction of product records.

AGENA3000 stated that the acquisition was intended to strengthen data-quality controls throughout business-to-business and business-to-consumer product-information flows.[8] Independent business reporting described the SRC System Integrators and ConsoTrust transactions as separate parts of AGENA3000’s wider acquisition and international-growth strategy.[9]

DocProcess acquisition

[edit]

On 17 September 2025, AGENA3000 acquired DocProcess, a Romanian business-process automation company.[10]

DocProcess develops the BEA, or Business Ecosystem Automation, cloud platform. The platform supports the automation of processes involving businesses, customers, suppliers, financial organisations and public-sector systems. Its modules include procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, electronic invoicing and electronic transport-document processes.[10]

The acquisition added approximately 50 employees in France and Romania to AGENA3000 and expanded the group’s capabilities beyond data exchange and product information into wider financial, purchasing, logistics and administrative workflows.[10]

Morphosis Capital, an investor in DocProcess before the transaction, described the sale as a complete exit by the investment fund and DocProcess’s founders.[11]

Following the acquisition, AGENA3000 reported that the group employed more than 250 people.[10]

Products and services

[edit]

AGENA3000’s product range is organised around the management, exchange, automation and enhancement of commercial data. Although its applications address different business functions, they are intended to connect information used by manufacturers, suppliers, brands, retailers, distributors, logistics providers and other trading partners.

Electronic invoicing

[edit]

AGENA3000 provides electronic-invoicing software for creating, transmitting, receiving, validating and processing invoices in digital formats. The platform is intended to support the replacement of paper documents and manually processed invoice files with structured electronic records.[12]

Electronic-invoicing systems may also provide status tracking, document controls, archiving, integration with accounting systems and support for country-specific reporting or compliance requirements.

Following the integration of DocProcess, the group’s electronic-invoicing activities also include business-process automation involving procure-to-pay, order-to-cash and government-connected invoicing systems.[10]

Electronic data interchange

[edit]

A3 EDI is AGENA3000’s electronic data interchange platform. It is used to automate the transfer of commercial documents and structured data between organisations.[3]

The platform supports direct connections using technologies such as HTTPS, AS2, SFTP, application programming interfaces and web services. AGENA3000 also supports connections through value-added networks.[3]

Supported data formats include EDIFACT, ANSI X12, XML, CSV, JSON, IDoc, text files and PDF-derived information. The service can be integrated with enterprise resource planning, warehouse management, customer relationship management, product lifecycle management, transportation management and other business systems.[3]

AGENA3000 offers both software and managed EDI services. Managed services can include connection setup, document mapping, monitoring, transaction tracking, alerts, technical support and the administration of partner relationships.

Product information management

[edit]

AGENA3000’s PIM applications are intended to provide a central environment for product information. The systems allow users to import data from multiple sources, organise it into a common structure, apply validation rules, enrich records and distribute approved information to external channels.

The principal PIM offerings include:

  • A3 PIM Industry, intended for manufacturers and brands managing product records for distributors, retailers and digital channels;
  • A3 PIM Sourcing, intended for organisations collecting product information from multiple suppliers;
  • A3 PIM Retail, intended for retailers managing product catalogues and information received from suppliers; and
  • A3 PARANGON DATAPOOL, used for the synchronisation and distribution of standardised product data.[2]

The applications are intended to reduce duplicated product records and limit reliance on uncoordinated spreadsheets, emails and individually maintained databases.

Product data management

[edit]

A3 PDM was added to the wider AGENA3000 portfolio following the acquisition of SRC System Integrators. Product data management focuses on the structured organisation and governance of technical product information.[6]

PDM and PIM systems can overlap, but they generally serve different stages of the product-data lifecycle. PDM commonly deals with technical, engineering or internally controlled product records, while PIM prepares commercial product information for publication and exchange.

Trade promotion management

[edit]

A3 TPM is used for the planning and financial management of trade promotions and commercial agreements. It allows organisations to record contractual conditions, promotional periods, forecasts and associated payments.

The platform is intended to give commercial and financial teams a shared view of promotional commitments and their effect on revenue, margins and customer accounts.[1]

ERP software

[edit]

ERP formed part of AGENA3000’s original software activity. Its ERP applications have historically served organisations in distribution and related industries, providing tools for coordinating commercial, administrative and operational information.[1]

As the group expanded, its focus broadened from internal enterprise management to data exchange, product-information management, digital commerce and cloud-based automation.

Data pools and product-data synchronisation

[edit]

AGENA3000 operates product-data synchronisation services through PARANGON. A data pool provides a structured environment in which suppliers can publish product information and authorised recipients can retrieve or synchronise those records.

Data-pool systems are particularly relevant to industries in which large numbers of manufacturers and retailers must exchange product attributes in standardised formats. They can reduce repeated data entry and improve consistency between supplier and retailer databases.

Content management and data quality

[edit]

AGENA3000 also provides content-management services relating to product visuals and packaging information. These services include the creation of product images and the digitisation of information displayed on product packaging.[2]

Through ConsoTrust, the group applies automated and artificial-intelligence-assisted controls to product information. These controls may be used to detect incomplete records, inconsistent values, formatting problems and possible regulatory issues.[8]

Business-process automation

[edit]

DocProcess expanded AGENA3000’s activities into the automation of processes that connect businesses with customers, suppliers, banks, logistics providers and public authorities.

Its BEA platform includes functionality for:

  • purchase requisitions and supplier invoices;
  • procure-to-pay workflows;
  • customer orders and order-to-cash workflows;
  • electronic invoicing;
  • document approval and validation;
  • communication with government platforms;
  • transaction monitoring; and
  • electronic transport documentation.[10]

Technology and implementation

[edit]

AGENA3000 provides many of its products as cloud-based software-as-a-service applications. The group also supports integration with existing enterprise systems through APIs, web services, file transfers, standard business-document formats and direct system connections.[3]

An implementation project may include analysis of business requirements, data modelling, document mapping, integration design, configuration, testing, deployment, training and continuing technical support. The exact process varies according to the product and the customer’s existing information systems.

AGENA3000 also provides consulting and project support relating to digital transformation, dematerialisation, e-commerce, product-data governance and the automation of data exchanges.[13]

Industries served

[edit]

AGENA3000 supplies software to organisations in a range of industries. These include:

  • food and consumer goods;
  • retail and wholesale distribution;
  • fashion and apparel;
  • food service and catering;
  • healthcare;
  • cosmetics and beauty;
  • construction and building materials;
  • manufacturing;
  • logistics; and
  • financial and administrative services.[13][10]

The group’s historical focus has been on organisations that exchange high volumes of commercial documents or maintain large and frequently changing product catalogues.

Cholet is the group’s principal headquarters. The Montreal office supports North American operations, while the Hoorn and Bucharest offices were added to the wider organisation through the acquisitions of SRC System Integrators and DocProcess.

Clients and market position

[edit]

AGENA3000 states that it works with more than 8,000 clients.[1] Its customers include manufacturers, brands, retailers and organisations that need to exchange data with large numbers of suppliers, customers or other partners.

The group’s products are generally used in business-to-business environments in which data accuracy, system compatibility and transaction traceability are important. AGENA3000 also supports business-to-consumer data flows by helping organisations prepare product information for websites, marketplaces, catalogues and other customer-facing channels.

Standards and partnerships

[edit]

GS1

[edit]

AGENA3000 has maintained a working relationship with GS1 France, an organisation involved in standards for product identification, barcodes and data exchange.[1]

Representatives of AGENA3000 have participated in the board of the GS1 Global Data Synchronisation Network. GDSN provides a standards-based framework through which trading partners can synchronise product information.

Data-exchange standards

[edit]

AGENA3000’s EDI products support a variety of international and industry-specific document standards. These include EDIFACT, ANSI X12, GENCOD, VDA, RosettaNet and other structured formats.[3]

Supporting multiple standards allows the platform to translate and route documents between organisations whose internal systems use different data structures.

Certifications and information security

[edit]

AGENA3000 states that it holds ISO/IEC 27001 certification covering the development, production, operation and support of its EDI, PIM and TPM software-as-a-service solutions.[1]

ISO/IEC 27001 is an international standard for information-security management systems. It covers the organisational processes used to identify, assess and manage information-security risks.

In February 2024, AGENA3000 announced that its quality-management system had obtained ISO 9001 certification.[15]

AGENA3000 also lists French Health Data Hosting certification, commonly known as HDS, among its major certifications.[1] HDS certification concerns organisations that host certain forms of health data within the French regulatory framework.

The group states that its security measures include transaction traceability, redundant hosting infrastructure, continuity planning, recovery procedures and employee training relating to security and confidentiality.[3]

Workforce and corporate culture

[edit]

AGENA3000 reported more than 250 employees following its expansion into the Netherlands and Romania.[1][10]

Its workforce includes software developers, product specialists, consultants, project managers, data specialists, support personnel and commercial teams. Because its software operates in specialised commercial environments, the group combines technical roles with employees who have knowledge of retail, manufacturing, supply-chain and product-information processes.

AGENA3000 describes employee development, internal mobility, age diversity and long-term employment as elements of its employment policy.[16]

Connect2Day

[edit]

AGENA3000 has organised an event known as Connect2Day since 2016. The event brings together participants from retail, manufacturing, data management and distribution to discuss technology, commercial data and digital transformation.[17]

The event has included presentations, discussions, demonstrations and opportunities for customers and industry participants to exchange information about market developments.
