Daniel Vial Ugarte (1849 – 25 April 1908) was a Chilean politician and civil engineer affiliated with the Conservative Party.

He served as Deputy of the Republic for three legislative periods between 1891 and 1903, representing San Felipe, Los Andes and Putaendo, and later Santiago.[1]

Biography

Vial was born in Talca in 1849, the son of Antonio Jacobo Vial Formas and Rafaela Ugarte Ramírez de Saldaña. He married María Mercedes Prieto Urriola on 17 August 1886; they had five children.[1]

He qualified as a civil engineer and later worked as a professor at the Instituto Nacional. He also served as a councillor of the Caja de Crédito Hipotecario and the Sociedad Nacional de Productos Químicos.[1]

Political career

A member of the Conservative Party, Vial was elected Deputy for San Felipe, Los Andes and Putaendo for the 1891–1894 legislative period. During this term, he served on the Conservative Committee during the parliamentary recess of 1893–1894.[1]

He was subsequently elected Deputy for Santiago for the 1894–1897 legislative period. After an interruption of three years, he returned to the Chamber as Deputy for Santiago for the 1900–1903 term.[1]

During his parliamentary service, Vial was a member of the Internal Police Committee, the Finance and Industry Committee and the Finance Committee. He also served on the Conservative Committee during the 1900–1901 parliamentary recess.[1]
