Daayra is an upcoming 2026 Indian Hindi-language thriller drama film directed by Meghna Gulzar under the banner of Junglee Pictures. It is written by Meghna Gulzar alongside co-written by Sima Agarwal and Yash Keswani.[1] It stars Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles.[2][3]

Production
[edit]The film was announced by Kareena Kapoor in April 2025.[4] Meghna Gulzar revealed that there will be no song in the film citing that the script doesn't have scope for musical sequences.[5] Her father Gulzar also confirmed it citing "Meghna thought adding songs would break up the story's flow, so she decided to stick with the tone of the story."[6]
Casting
[edit]Initially Ayushmann Khurrana[7] and then Sidharth Malhotra was the choice for male lead, but Khurana and Malhotra left the project due to their scheduling conflicts, and Prithviraj Sukumaran was finalised for the role.[8][9] Kareena Kapoor played the female lead.[10][11] This film is first collaboration of Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kareena Kapoor.[12][13]
Filming
[edit]Principal photography commenced on 25 September 2025.[14][15] Filming completed on 26 December 2025.[16]
Release
[edit]The film is slated for theatrical release on 18 September 2026.[17][18]
