Andrew Perez is a Canadian non-profit executive, public affairs strategist, political commentator and writer[1].
Since September 2026, he has served as executive director of Egale Canada, a Canadian 2SLGBTQI advocacy organization.[2]
Education
[edit]Perez studied journalism at Carleton University, where he earned a Bachelor of Journalism. During his undergraduate studies, he spent a year as a parliamentary page and later completed internships that included placements in the office of U.S. Representative Barbara Lee, the Canadian Political Science Association's parliamentary internship programme, the office of Ontario cabinet minister John Wilkinson and Metrolinx.
He later earned a Master of Public Policy from the University of Toronto's Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. He also completed a certificate in public relations through the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies.
Career
[edit]Government and Public Affairs
[edit]Perez worked in Canadian politics early in his career. In 2013, he became a special assistant in the office of Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne.
In 2015, he joined the Investment Funds Institute of Canada as a communications specialist in public affairs. He subsequently worked as a media relations manager at the Canadian Bankers Association, an advocacy manager at the Canadian Credit Union Association and a corporate communications adviser at Canadian Tire Corporation.
Perez later served as media relations manager at the Toronto Region Board of Trade before joining Hill+Knowlton Strategies as a senior consultant in corporate communications and advisory.
In 2024, he founded Perez Strategies, a Toronto-based strategic communications and public affairs consultancy. The firm's clients included Pride at Work Canada and the Canadian Men's Health Foundation.
Non-Profit Leadership
[edit]Perez was the executive director of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP) from 2025 to 2026.[1][3]
In 2026, Perez was appointed executive director of Egale Canada, succeeding longtime executive director Helen Kennedy.[2]
Media and writing
[edit]Perez has worked as a freelance writer and political commentator alongside his communications and public affairs career. His writing has appeared in publications including The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, National Post, TVO and iPolitics.
He has also appeared as a political commentator on Canadian television and has been featured by outlets including CBC News, CTV News, CP24 and BNN Bloomberg.
Perez has contributed opinion columns to iPolitics on Canadian federal politics and political parties.[4]
Community involvement
[edit]Perez serves as president and chair of the board of directors of Fife House, a Toronto organization providing supportive housing and services to people and families living with HIV/AIDS. He became board president in March 2025 and was subsequently re-elected to the position[5].
