Aftari, is one of the local languages of Semnan province, belonging to the Komisenian group of the Northwestern Iranian branch of the Iranian languages.[2][3][4] The language is spoken in the village of Aftar in Semnan Province and derives its name from Aftar.[3] Aftari is closely related to Sorkhei and Lasgerdi.[3]
Classification
[edit source]Glottolog classifies Aftari within the Komisenian subgroup of the Northwestern Iranian branch of the Iranian languages, which also includes other languages such as Sangsari, Lasgerdi and Sorkhei.[2] The Glottolog classification for these languages is as follows:[2]
Grammar
[edit source]Aftari displays a high degree of diachronic conservation regarding Northwestern Iranian phonology.[5] Morphologically, Aftari forms its present stem from the Old Iranian present participle /*-ant/,[3] which links it to Zaza, Tati, Talysh, Gilaki and Mazanderani.[6][7]

[edit source]The Aftari pronoun paradigm is as follows: a = I, tu = you, ū = he/she, hēm = we, hūy = you (pl.), and yūn = they.[8]
