Zach Joseph Mitchell (born 9 January 2005) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Scottish Premiership club St Johnstone on loan from EFL Championship club Charlton Athletic.
Career
[edit]Charlton Athletic
[edit]Coming through the youth system of Charlton Athletic, Mitchell penned his first professional contract with the club on 27 July 2022.[5]
Mitchell made his professional debut for Charlton, playing the first 65 minutes of a 2–1 EFL Trophy victory at home against Brighton & Hove Albion U21 on 2 November 2022.[6]
Mitchell made his second appearance for the club just four days later, on 5 November 2022, coming off the bench after just 18 minutes for the injured Terell Thomas, in the 4–1 FA Cup first round victory over Coalville Town.[7]
On 18 October 2024, Mitchell signed a new two-and-a-half year contract keeping him at the club until 2027 with a club option of an extra year.[8]
Colchester United (loan)
[edit]On 1 September 2023, Mitchell joined Colchester United on a season-long loan.[9]
St Johnstone (first loan)
[edit]On 3 February 2025, Mitchell joined St Johnstone on loan until the end of the 2024–25 season.[10][11]
Hibernian (loan)
[edit]On 5 September 2025, Mitchell joined Hibernian on loan until the end of the 2025–26 season.[12]
On 19 January 2026, Mitchell was recalled from his loan by Charlton Athletic having only made two first-team appearances for Hibernian since joining.[13]
St Johnstone (second loan)
[edit]On 6 July 2026, Mitchell returned to St Johnstone on loan until the end of the 2026–27 season.[14][15]
International
[edit]On 15 December 2019 Mitchell represented the England U15 team against Turkey.[16]
Personal life
[edit]Mitchell is the brother of Sheffield Wednesday player Billy Mitchell.[17]
