Wireless Infrastructure Group (WIG) is a British telecommunications infrastructure company. It owns and operates telecommunications infrastructure, including mobile telephone towers, rooftop sites, distributed antenna systems (DAS), and small-cell networks.[1][2] The company is owned by Brookfield Infrastructure.[3]
History
[edit source]Wireless Infrastructure Group was established in 2006 and began operations in 2007 as an independent owner and operator of telecommunications infrastructure in the United Kingdom.[4]
In 2016, 3i Infrastructure acquired a minority stake in the company. In 2017, it increased its ownership to a majority stake through a further investment.[5][6]
In 2019, Brookfield Infrastructure acquired Wireless Infrastructure Group in a transaction valued at approximately £575 million.[7][8]
In 2020, Wireless Infrastructure Group submitted written evidence to the UK Parliament's Digital Infrastructure inquiry. The submission discussed rural mobile coverage, telecommunications infrastructure deployment and regulatory issues affecting wireless infrastructure.[9]
Operations
[edit source]Wireless Infrastructure Group owns telecommunications infrastructure used by mobile network operators and other communications providers.[10] Its portfolio includes telecommunications towers, rooftop sites, distributed antenna systems and small-cell infrastructure. The company operates more than 3,000 wireless infrastructure sites in Europe and North America.[11]
