WikiShield is a recent changes patrolling tool developed by LuniZunie.[b] It was originally based off of AntiVandal, but has since been completely separated from the original code. The tool greatly expands on the idea of recent changes patrolling, with many new, unique features such as reviewing pending changes, abuse logs, your watchlist, and getting Wikipedia notifications directly in the tool. To run this script, you must have the rollback user group and your account must be at least 7 days old and have 1000+ edits to allow for the higher rate limit required.

WikiShield can be used as both a user script and a desktop application. Both versions are updated together and their features are kept in sync, however the app has a few extra features not available through user scripts.

By default, the script has five different edit feeds: recent changes, pending changes,[c] user creation logs, your watchlist, and abuse logs. Each feed can be toggled in the settings.

Installation

[edit]

User script

[edit]

The WikiShield user script can be installed manually by adding {{subst:lusc|User:LuniZunie/scripts/WikiShield.js}} to your common.js, or automatically by clicking the install button in the infobox.[d]

To start using the script, look for a button that says "WS WikiShield" next to your preferences button, clicking this will launch WikiShield. Additionally, you can just visit this page to run the script.

Desktop application

[edit]

Instructions on how to install the WikiShield app can be found on the WikiShield GitHub page. Once you have installed the app, you can launch it as normal; the app will automatically update when a new version is released.

Usage

Controls

[edit]

WikiShield's controls are completely customizable, including the ability to consist of modifier keys (such as ctrl+shift+w). The default controls of WikiShield closely match AntiVandal's:

  • Q rolls back the current edit, warns the user who made it with escalating warnings, and reports to AIV if they are at a final warning.
  • space / right arrow goes to the next edit.
  • left arrow goes to the previous edit.
  • H opens up the page history of the selected edit.
  • C opens the contributions of the selected user.
  • T thanks the user for the selected edit.
  • W welcomes the user if they do not have an existing talk page.

Features

[edit]
  • AI Analysis on edits and usernames (optional, disabled by default)
  • Reporting users to WP:AIV and WP:UAA
  • Requesting page protection through WP:RFPP
  • Reporting users globally to m:SRG
  • Control scripts / custom shortcuts
  • Whitelisting and Highlighting users, pages, and tags
  • Accepting or rejecting pending changes[c]
  • Patrolling recent user creations
  • Patrolling abuse logs
  • See edits to your watchlist
  • Gadgets including automatic welcoming and username highlighting
  • Notifications and alerts
  • And more!
