Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Basketball

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Basketball. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Basketball|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Basketball. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Sports.

2014–15 Ryukyu Golden Kings season (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

I am not sure if this individual team season meets notability. The sources are mostly primary sources and a betting website. MarcusAbacus (talk) 06:48, 7 August 2026 (UTC)reply

Ashiana BK (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

The article appears to be based largely on fictional material originating from the Russian-language Virtual Soccer League (VSOL) fantasy football forums rather than reliable sources documenting a real Afghan football club.

Extensive searches in English, Persian, Pashto, Russian and Turkish have not located reliable independent sources verifying the article's principal claims, including its alleged 1985 foundation, relocation to Turkey as "AZ Qunduzspor", merger with "Zoalqadar", political affiliations, stadium, manager, squad, nickname, or participation in an "Afghanian Cup".

The article's narrative closely mirrors VSOL forum discussions from late 2009. One thread explicitly invited participants to "use their imagination" to invent nicknames and kits for Afghan clubs, where "Red Rebels" was assigned to Kunduzspor (). Another discussion developed the Ashiana–Zoalqadar–Turkey backstory that later appeared in this article (). Additional VSOL threads show "Ashiana Zoalqadar" participating in simulated fantasy matches rather than documenting a real club ().

These forum posts appear to be the origin of the article's unique claims, while no reliable independent sources have been found to support them. The only apparent independent mention located is an RSSSF list that gives a 1985 foundation date, but this entry appears to have been added after the English Wikipedia article. 2027 Women's Baseball World Cup Group A (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

I propose merging to 2027 Women's Baseball World Cup because the topic is covered in the main article and there's no reason for a stand-alone article without a lot of coverage and with mostly repeated information. Mariamneireach out 🕊️ 13:34, 27 July 2026 (UTC)reply

Nominated for deletion due to a lack of General Notability and Biographical Notability. Coverage is primarily routine local sports reporting (e.g., Pensacola News Journal) or transactional personnel announcements, which does not satisfy the requirement for significant, independent secondary coverage required for a standalone biography.
