Fix an error
[edit]
Obvious error
[edit]If you find an obvious typo, spelling error, grammar error, or similar, feel free to fix it! Click the 'Edit' button at the top of the affected page, fix the error, then click 'Publish changes'.
Content error
[edit]If you think something is wrong in an article, such as an incorrect statistic, date, or fact, make sure there is a reliable source which backs up your change.
First, if there is a source attributed to the sentence or paragraph where the error is, read that source to see if it contains the correct information. If so, you can fix the error without doing anything else.
If there is no source attached, you need to find a reliable source which supports your change. A reliable source can be something like a news article or RCDB page, but personal blogs or social media posts are generally not considered reliable. You can read the WikiProject Amusement Parks research guide to learn how to find reliable sources for an article, and you can look at the list of perennial sources for amusement parks to see which sources are reliable and unreliable. Once you have found a reliable source, fix the error and add your source to the article after the affected sentence (see Help:Referencing for beginners if you need help).
I don't know how to fix the error / I need help
[edit]If you want input from other editors, place a message on the talk page of the article you believe has an error and describe what you think should be changed and why.
You can also tag a page for problems if you are unsure or unable to fix the problem yourself.
Improve/expand an article
[edit]
An easy way to improve a small article is to use its existing sources to write more content and expand the article.
If an article has few or no sources, or if you would like to expand it further, the first step is finding reliable sources.
If you don't have an article to expand, there are 815 articles which are in dire need of expansion. You can use the buttons below to find a random one.
Write a new article
[edit]Before writing an article, the first step is to check that one doesn't already exist. Use the search tool to check if there is an existing article that you can expand.
If no article exists already, the next step is to determine whether the subject is notable – whether it warrants its own article. Read over the WikiProject's notability guide to ascertain whether the article is notable before proceeding.
If there is no existing article and the subject warrants its own article, it is recommended to start by creating a sandbox as a subpage of your user page to draft the article.
The first priority is to compile a list of reliable sources on the subject you are writing about.
Next, you may begin writing the article. Where appropriate, split up the article into sections. A list of common sections and what they include can be found in the standards section of this WikiProject.
When you are done writing the article, you may:
- Submit it as a draft to be reviewed by a volunteer
- Move it into the main namespace of Wikipedia directly (unless your account is new or unregistered). It is often a good idea to ask for feedback before doing so, which can be done at the WikiProject Amusement Parks talk page.
Do something else
[edit]There's lots more that can be done to help improve amusement park-related articles! Feel free to be bold and make improvements anywhere. If you need help or want to know how else you can contribute, check out the WikiProject Amusement Parks talk page. We'd love to have your contributions!
