Wikipedia:WikiProject AMWikicommonsUploadWorkflow

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This project aims to establish a workflow for Wikimedia Commons uploads via the Auckland Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira API. It is our aspiration to make as much of our openly licensed content available as we possibly can on Wikimedia Commons in the near future.

Project

[edit]

This project page was created in October 2025 by Dactylantha, Auckland Museum employee, in an effort to work with the Museum's new API and look for opportunities to increase efficiency and standardise structured data via batch uploading methods.

The initial pilot upload will be utilising Auckland Museum's openly licensed images from the Covid-19 Pandemic Collection https://www.aucklandmuseum.com/discover/collections/search?f=collection:Covid-19%20Pandemic%20Collection&ooc=True

More information about Auckland Museum's Collecting Covid endeavour can be found here:

We will be trialing different batch upload methods, along with Wikimedia Commons templates. There seems to be two camps in the GLAM-Wikicommunity for batch uploading - OpenRefine and PattyPan. I will be experimenting as I go with different methods, and will also be heavily utilising resource provided within the newly provided handbook for Wikimedia Commons by Wikipedia:GLAM/GLAM-E_Lab - https://www.glamelab.org/products/image-and-metadata-handbook-for-wikimedia-commons/
