As the World Cup winds down, death and blockbusters also take up the space of the football entries.

1	Lindsey Graham		4,433,727		The US Senator for South Carolina died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 71. A Republican, Graham was known for his strong support of basically every American war ever, as well his alliance with a man who he'd previously called a "kook". Graham was chair of the Senate Budget Committee and once ran for president, though he didn't really get far. Despite how readers may feel about him, he was marginally better than the man he replaced.
2	The Odyssey (2026 film)		3,887,683		#24's retelling of #11 by Homer was released on July 17 in the US and UK with a star-studded cast. However, the casting created "controversy" among the typical Chud circuits online because "nobody was Greek" enough to be in the movie, deriding the movie's diverse casting choices. The movie is set to make millions regardless of (or in some cases, because of) the controversy.
3	Sam Neill		3,603,565		The New Zealand actor passed away in Sydney at 78 years old, with pneumonia as the cause of death. He had a slew of well-known roles in both film and TV, and was best known as Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park series. He also starred in Hunt for the Wilderpeople, New Zealand's highest-grossing film (excluding all the American ones that hang out in the country).
4	2026 FIFA World Cup		2,476,321		We are nearing the end of the 23rd edition of the world's biggest football tournament, with the upcoming final between the South American and European championship winners (the former also being the defending world champions) Argentina and Spain taking place the day after this Report.
5	Jude Bellingham		2,074,030		England ultimately finished 3rd following the bronze medal game against France, with Bellingham making history by officially becoming the first English football star to score 7 goals at a single World Cup.
6	Lionel Messi		2,011,242		These two superstars—one from Argentina, one from Spain—are scheduled to clash against each other in #4's final, which takes place the day after this Report on July 19. We'll most definitely be discussing that on next week's Report so to avoid any spoilers this week, let's focus on the 2007 photos that recently went viral, featuring a 20-year-old long-haired Messi bathing a 5-month-old baby, which completely by chance happens to be Yamal. No, it is not AI.

8	List of FIFA World Cup finals		1,538,590		For those of you who don't know, this year's final will feature the first ever Super Bowl-style halftime show starring Madonna, Shakira, BTS and Justin Bieber. I will use a photo of Shakira because that's the first person I think of when discussing World Cup songs.
9	Erling Haaland		1,336,559		Norway was eliminated from #4 by England on July 11 and yet Haaland continues to be a social media sensation with nearly 30 million new followers on Instagram and a dinner invitation from the star of #2 with a similar surname, which Haaland completely ignored because he had no idea who Holland was.
10	FIFA World Cup		1,283,392		8 teams have won it, and the #4 final would mark the first squad to win twice in the 21st century. (jumping ahead with the result, this song was a good choice after the final ended)
11	Odyssey		1,134,337		#2 adapts one of the oldest surviving fictional stories, the sequel to the Iliad telling how Odysseus (also known as Ulysses) took ten years to return home after the Trojan War.
12	Jannik Sinner		1,133,375		While Italy shamefully missed #4, across the pond one of their own was winning Wimbledon, beating Alexander Zverev in the decision. (the women's final was an an all-Czech affair conquered by Linda Nosková)
13	Sonam Wangchuk		1,088,032		An engineer and educator from the Indian state of Ladakh, Wangchuk has become a prominent activist in recent years. On the 28th of June he began a hunger strike in Delhi demanding education reform and the resignation of the responsible minister, and quickly became the figurehead of an already building protest movement. He was forcibly hospitalised by the Delhi police on the 18th. The protests, organised mostly by the eye-catchingly named Cockroach Janta Party, were originally triggered by the government screwing up a major university entrance exam.
14	Kylian Mbappé		1,061,984		France's big star saw his team knocked out of the tourney by Spain, marking the first time he's failed to make the final in his World Cup career. On the other hand his two goals in the third place playoff made him the leading goal-scorer in FIFA World Cup history (though #6 still had the final to take the title back, but it was not to be).
15	Deaths in 2026		1,029,023		I would hold you in my arms, I would take the pain away, Thank you for all you've done, Forgive all your mistakes, There's nothing I wouldn't do, To hear your voice again, Sometimes I wanna call you, But I know you won't be there...
16	Falkland Islands		992,853		Or las Malvinas, if you prefer. Ownership of these rainy islands in the South Atlantic have been disputed by Britain and Argentina for a very long time. They have been firmly under British control since the mid-1800s, apart from when Argentina briefly took over in 1982; Britain took them back later in the year (see #17). After knocking England out of the World Cup, some Argentina players held a sign up reading las Malvinas son Argentinas (the Malvinas are Argentine), causing some rankle among disgruntled England supporters.

18	Obsession (2025 film)		948,121		In spite of already being available via video on demand, this cheap, acclaimed and highly profitable horror film stills ranks seventh at the weekend box office. (out of the movies above it, only third place Toy Story 5 entered our sports-dominated recent Reports; the top two are other family pictures in the Moana remake and Minions & Monsters, while fourth is more horror in Evil Dead Burn, and right afterwards an historic epic and a star-studded comedy) Is the obsession surrounding Bear and Nikki ever going to stop?
19	Mitch McConnell		940,906		People did not have #1 dying first on their 2026 bingo cards, nor did they see the senior Senator from Kentucky outliving him. The question of whether McConnell is still alive remains up in the air in our detached, untrusting era. The Senator and his wife, former Cabinet member Elaine Chao posed for a proof of life photo on July 12, but that hasn't stopped people from continuing to speculate and theorize about his status.
20	Ann Widdecombe		890,798		And in another story about the death of a right-wing politician, the investigation into the murder of the grande-dame of British social conservatism continues. A man in South Yorkshire was arrested on July 11 in connection with the murder and has been held since. A divisive figure while alive, expect Widdecombe to receive the Charlie Kirk treatment in "martyrdom". This is at least the third murder of a sitting or former member of parliament in the last ten years, which has current and former MPs worried about their own security.
21	Thomas Tuchel		788,190		This German football manager was associated with some of the top-flight football teams in the world before becoming the manager of the England national team. Since becoming the manager in 2025, he was able to lead the team to a third place finish in #4, their highest rank in 50 years.
22	Darline Graham		785,409		In the US, when a senator dies, a new one is appointed by the state governor to finish the term. The governor appointed #1's sister, following a long tradition of appointing relatives to vacated seats.
23	Conor McGregor		750,767		The mixed martial artist, "actor" and felon returned to the octagon briefly in UFC 329 on July 11. However, McGregor hurt his knee and lost the fight due to a TKO after 69 seconds (nice). Now he can go back to egging on fascist rioters and raping women.
24	Christopher Nolan		747,344		Filmmaker known for masterpieces such as Inception, Interstellar, The Dark Knight and the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer, responsible for his most recent release, #2. While Oppenheimer remains his only 3 hour movie, #2 marks the fourth time Nolan surpassed 160 minutes.
25	FIFA Men's World Ranking		747,138		Right above #6's rival Cristiano Ronaldo and #12's adversary at the Wimbledon final is the way FIFA determines the best national teams. The top 2 were the ones to get a ticket to the New Jersey Meadowlands for the final.
