Pitlurg and Pitlurg Castle

[edit]

Could someone have a look at these? I was drawn by the dab page Pitlurg (disambiguation) which is at AfD, and I expanded the hatnote on Pitlurg to replace the unnecessary dab page. But ... the drone image seems to show somewhere on the coast, there are no coordinates given for the village, the history of village and castle seems to overlap although they are in different counties (or are they? I don't know the history of Scottish counties/regions). I see from OS maps that what looks like a county or regional boundary runs through the Den of Pitlurg, just south of the castle, which may complicate matters. I see also a note in Commons at File:Pitlurg_Castle_-_geograph.org.uk_-_479391.jpg saying:

"Pitlurg Castle There is some confusion between this and the lands of Pitlurg near Ellon in Aberdeenshire. Some sources say that this was the home of a family of Gordons who included Jock of Scurdargue and his descendant Robert Gordon of Straloch, a 17th century scholar and polymath. Other sources locate this family in the Pitlurg near Ellon. This looks like a suitable topic for further research!"

Over to you. Pinging @PaveTheWayUSA who is working on the village article and took the drone photo. PamD 09:14, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

And List of United Kingdom locations: Peo-Pn has no Pitlurgs. PamD 09:16, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
And I see that the article for the village was only created 3 days ago. Hmmm. PamD 09:17, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I see that the Den of Pitlurg SSSI is listed in both List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Moray and Nairn and List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Gordon and Aberdeen and the latter has a note saying "Den of Pitlurgh SSSI is situated on the boundary of Aberdeenshire and Moray". Map. PamD 09:32, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I also see that Pitlurg railway station (former) is in a different place, where the OS map now shows "Pitlurg Station House" and nearby "Home Farm of Pitlurg": between Ellon, Aberdeenshire and Hatton, Aberdeenshire, just south of the A90. PamD 09:51, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
The image from the article is Old Slains Castle so have adjusted it. I am in two minds here. Its debatable whether the disambig and the Pitlurg settlement here are notable. Coldupnorth (talk) 11:58, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Mhairi Porterfield (nee Mhairi Walters)

[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Mhairi_Porterfield An international athlete already mentioned twice on wikipedia under her maiden name has been deemed not notable and so the stub is likely to be deleted. ~2026-40290-94 (talk) 18:34, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
