The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Wikipedia article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed. Many charts and graphs on the web are in the public domain. See c:Template:PD-chart; no need to create another free chart here if it already exists on the web. Advice to requesters

All requests:

  • Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
    • If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
  • Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
  • If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

SVG requests:

  • Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.

Hi! This is a long one but is like that as part of a celebration, namely, the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. All the flags above are associated with the American Revolution and besides that, they all also need vectorizing. I kindly ask for their vectorization. This was originally planned to be posted on the fourth of July (American independence day) but was instead posted early so some of the flags can be vectorized before and even on the day celebrating the event. Hi! I was wondering if someone can kindly please vectorize the alternate flag of the Dutch village of Stompwijk? The flag consists of three horizontal stripes from top to bottom of green, red and white. The green and red stripes both take up a quarter of the flag each meant they're half of the flag in total, the white stripe at the bottom takes up the other two quarters/one half of the flag. In the middle of the white stripe is a red deer that's taken from Stompwijk's coat of arms. I have included not only the flag of Stompwijk (which itself contains the coat of arms) to use for the colors for the stripes but also an upside down version of the flag of Colombia to use both as references so the request can be done more quickly. I didn't know they changed the flag. The flag I was looking at was the one archived at web.archive.org on January 1 2024 https://web.archive.org/web/20240101/https://www.mastenenvlaggen.nl/product/dorpsvlag-lewedorp/ and this was the one I asking for vectorization. I use the list in this link to decide what flags need vectorisation and have archived the sites listed on both web.archive.org and archive.ph (aka archive.is, if one doesn't work, try the other). This is a good idea because the website listed for "Voorne aan Zee" was shut down and I was able to replace the link with the archived one. For the record, Voorne aan Zee had changed their flag since that page was archived and I had not checked mastenenvlaggen.nl in a while. That flag is apparently the old one and I didn't know that they had a new one. With the discovery that Lewedorp had changed their flag in the years since, I kindly ask request that both are done. That link goes to a Dutch website that sells flags of the local towns and villages and you can even buy a Baak flag there yourself if you want it! Hi! I was wondering if someone can kindly please vectorize the flag of the General Agent of the Estonian Navy? The flag is a version of the flag of Estonia (a horizontal tricolor of three stripes from top to bottom of blue, black and white) with an addition of a square canton in white entirely in the blue stripe. In the square white canton are two crossed anchors in gold (the anchors might also have a black outline but I'm not sure if that's the case or not). I have included two Estonian flags with similar elements to use as references, so the request can be done more quickly. Hi again. This is it! The final flag on Germenfer's list (or at least it was before Alexphangia decided to add more today), it's the flag of the Dutch village of Uddel!!! The flag is a very thin Nordic cross colored white and four corners of yellow on the top-left, green on the top-right, blue on the bottom left and purple on the bottom-right. In the middle of the yellow corner (which also acts as the flag's canton) is a black silhouette of a stag. It's this stag that's caused the request to stall the first time. It turns the stag, which is in fact used on the the official version as seen on photographs https://uddel.info/nieuws/bestellen-van-de-nieuwe-uddelse-vlag/ https://www.vlaggen.com/p/vlag-uddel/ https://www.fotw.info/flags/nl-ge-ud.html, is apparently taken from clip art of unknown provenance https://stock.adobe.com/images/deer-vector-illustration/201022301. The issue is where the village of Uddel got that stag from. I feel the easiest way of doing this is by contacting the village of Uddel, ask them who designed the flag and if they took the stag silhouette from one of those websites or not. If it was from a website like Openclipart which explicitly allows free use of their images and relinquish all copyrights from them, then it's probably OK! It it's not from a site like that, Wikipedia will have to delete it and there's actually very unusual legal consequences for Uddel itself. Under Dutch law, official flags of Dutch municipalities and provinces are public domain. If the stag on the flag is copyrighted, Uddel is in violation of this law and not only will we have to delete this file but Uddel will be also forced to change their flag to avoid breaking the law!!! It's not the first time a place had to change its flag because its designer put a copyrighted symbol from a website on it. In 2023, Martinique (a Caribbean island that's also a French overseas territory) had a contest to design a flag for the island that was won by a flag with a hummingbird on it. The design of the hummingbird was taken from the Shutterstock website (where the designs are copyrighted) and when this was discovered, there was there was controversy in Martinique over that. The designer, Anaïs Delwaulle asked that her flag be withdrawn from consideration because of the controversy and the Assembly of Martinique complied, instead voting for a preexisting design known as "rouge-vert-noir" used by Martinique independence campaigners. Really, this request is to see whether or not the stag silhouette is from a website that allows free use of their images and relinquish all copyrights from them. If it is, we vectorize it, if not, we delete it. Since this stag is seen on multiple websites, it will take some time to find out. I was wondering if someone can kindly please vectorize the flags of four Chilean cities. These the flags of Cabrero, Calama, Chaitén and Cochrane. Most of these have their coat of arms in them, and these are already vectorized and are placed here so the flags can be vectorised quickly. The exceptions are Calama (which doesn't use its coat of arms on its flag but does have a flag construction sheet you can use for the vectorization) and Cochrane (which only uses the two stags from the coat of arms on its flag, not the full coat of arms itself). I also ask if the coat of arms of Cochrane be vectorized too so that the vectorized stags can be used on the vectorized flag too. For some images, the reason why it takes a long while is because some images, may cross the boundaries of threashold of originality, trademark law and copyright law. Take the flag of Seattle for example. Some parts of an image are copyrightable, some aren't, and it is important to differentiate which is "too simple", as say, the flag of Fort Worth seems simple to me, but objectively, is it really simple to be copyrightable?
Therefore, we should probe deeper into what's required and all that so that if we impulsively upload images we think is free of copyright, we won't risk deletion. RAPTOR7762Whats up? 04:32, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I have uploaded this SVG diagram showing two screen-printing squeegee designs and five examples of blade-edge profiles, with Arabic labels. I would appreciate suggestions on its readability at thumbnail size, the visual distinction between the blade profiles, and the clarity of the labels. My main concern is whether the small profile labels remain legible when the diagram is displayed within an article. Suggestions for improving the label size or layout would be particularly helpful. @Cmglee: I have now uploaded a revised version of the SVG with the two squeegee drawings stacked vertically, larger Arabic labels and separators between the sections. The five blade profiles remain in a row beneath the drawings, so this differs from your suggested side-by-side layout. Thank you for the helpful feedback.
