Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2026 October 3

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Apologies if I am doing the wrong thing, I am asking for support as I am not familiar with Wikipedia's copyright policy. The section 'Eventual acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery and departure of Jeff Shell' has been tagged as potentially violating copyright. I can't identify what current material is violating copyright - I WP:BOLDly removed the tag but it was restored by @Gurkubondinn: who doesn't seem to have addressed the question either. I am very willing to believe that parts of the article are in violation of copyright, but I can't see which ones.

It seems to stem from this discussion on the administrators noticeboard all of the violating content has now been deleted from the article but have not been WP:REVDELETEd. I'm not entirely comfortable with engaging with the revision deletion process myself so if someone else could identify the necessary steps and give a third opinion on whether copyrighted material remains on the page I would be much obliged.

Thank-you for your patience.

Best wishes, ~ El D. (talk to me) 14:58, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply

Not sure what the copyright tag is about, but the reason that I restored the tags was the {{ai-generated}} tag which is there because of Wikipedia:AI noticeboard/Archive 21 § Nicky nella and Nick nella 2.0. That case involved some sockpuppetry, so the AI-generated material originates in edits from more than one user. LLMs are more than capable of generating copyright-protected material, both through WP:CLOP and for instance when someone inserts machine-translations from a different wikiproject (or of other CC-BY-SA licenced text) without providing WP:TFOLWP-compliant attribution.
If the copyright-protected material has been identified, you just need to request {{copyvio-revdel}} for the range of revisions, starting with the revision that introduced the copyvios up until the revision it was removed in.
The {{copypaste}} tag (along with the {{ai-generated}} and {{close paraphrasing}} tags) was added in Diff/1367728774 by Ben-fpyt, which I also mentioned in § AI-generated on the talk page. And as I was looking through the page history to refresh my memory, I found more likely AI-generated edits from other users. ‑‑gurkubondinn 15:59, 3 October 2026 (UTC)reply
  1. Would you be happy for the copyright issue templates to be removed once revision deletion has occurred?
  2. Please could you specify which other edits you suspect of being AI?
