Wataloricus is a monospecific genus. Its only species is Wataloricus japonicus.

Taxonomy

Wataloricus japonicus was found in near Japan in the Northwest Pacific. It was classified as being in Pliciloricidae.[1]

Traits

Some characteristics of this species which differentiate it from others within Pliciloricidae include:[1]

Adults

  • Long, solid mouth tube with an membrane at its end shaped like an umbrella.[1]
  • Two identical organs, each with a spinoscalid.[1]
  • 15 trichoscalids (thin wikt:scalids).[1]
  • 46 vertical plicae overall.[1]

Higgins-larvae

  • Clavoscalids (club-shaped) with pointed ends.[1]
  • Second row of scalids1 are spinoscalids.[1]
  • Many wrinkles on the thorax.[1]
  • Two pairs of hair-like structures on the front and back each.[1]
  • Long, thin toes.[1]
