WRIVE is a Filipino boy band managed by Polaris-Star Magic and signed to Star Music. The group consists of Asi, Drei, Ishiro, Mathew, and Russu, all of whom previously competed on the Filipino–South Korean survival reality programme Dream Maker.[1]
The group began performing under the WRIVE name in 2024 and released "Color Clash", the theme song of the ABS-CBN game show Rainbow Rumble, that year.[2] They officially debuted in July 2025 with the double single "Ooh La La" and "Señorita".[1] Their self-titled debut studio album was released in January 2026.[3]
Name
[edit]The group's name is derived from the phrase "we have arrived", reflecting how the five members came from different backgrounds before eventually coming together around a shared goal.[4] Drei, who coined the name, said it represents the members arriving at the same point after following separate paths before the group's formation.[5]
History
[edit]2022–2024: Dream Maker and pre-debut activities
[edit]Asi Gatdula, Drei Amahan, Ishiro Incapas, Mathew Cruz, and Russu Laurente competed separately on Dream Maker in 2022. By April 2024, the five had come together as WRIVE under Polaris-Star Magic and were introduced as former top 16 contestants of the programme.[6]
The group performed at the New Gen Champs concert at the Music Museum on April 27, 2024, where they performed the then-unreleased song "Hollywood".[6] They later performed the song at the Star Magic All-Star Games in June.[7]
In July, WRIVE recorded "Color Clash", the theme song of Rainbow Rumble.[2]
2025: Official debut
[edit]WRIVE officially debuted on July 16, 2025, with the double single "Ooh La La" and "Señorita".[1] "Ooh La La", a pop-funk track written by ALAS and Jeremy G and produced by Jonathan Manalo, was accompanied by the group's first official music video.[1]
In an interview with Daily Tribune, the members described their music as drawing from Filipino hip-hop, pop, and different musical eras, while their performances incorporate narrative-based concepts.[5]
WRIVE received the New Group Artist of the Year award at the 2025 P-pop Music Awards, sharing the recognition with girl group VVINK.[8]
2026–present: WRIVE
[edit]On January 16, 2026, the group released its self-titled debut studio album, WRIVE. The ten-track album includes the previously released songs "Ooh La La", "Señorita", and "Color Clash", as well as a new version of "Hollywood". "Hakbang" served as the album's key track.[3]
The album was followed by Unang Hakbang: The WRIVE 1st Album Showcase, held at the SM North EDSA Annex Atrium on January 17.[9]
In 2026, WRIVE also performed at Billboard Philippines's P-POP UNITE: The Convention, where they performed "Ooh La La" and a cover of Gloc-9's "Sumayaw Ka".[10]
