Valli D. Geiger (December 2, 1955)[1] is an American politician and nurse who has served in the Maine House of Representatives since 2020. A member of the Democratic Party, Geiger is currently running for a fourth term.[2]
Early life and education
[edit]Geiger was born on Chanute Air Force Base in Champaign County, Illinois. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Niagara University in 1977 and studied public administration and public health at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She earned a certification in sustainable development from the Fielding Graduate Institute and earned a Master of Science in sustainable design from the Boston Architectural College in 2014.[3]
Career

[edit]After earning her bachelor's degree, Geiger worked as a nurse at the Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, Maine. She was the director of quality improvement at the Maine Primary Care Association and director the Health Reach's Hospice Program. She also owned V Consulting.[4]
Political career
[edit]Geiger previously served on the Rockland City Council and as mayor of Rockland.[5] In 2020, she was elected to the Maine House of Representatives from a district that included the towns of Owls Head and Rockland.[6] As a legislator, Geiger has pushed to improve tracking and testing of rape kits.[7]
Geiger was a prominent supporter of Graham Platner's campaign for US Senate. Geiger defended U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner as he faced a variety of controversies including misconduct allegations, writing in a Fall of 2025 newspaper op-ed that he "deserves grace."[8][9][10] She said that Platner is "a man becoming a better man."[11][12]
Geiger, along with former state Senate President Troy Jackson, were reportedly Platner's preferred picks to replace him on the general election ballot following his exit from the race. Geiger said that Platner urged her to run to replace him on the ballot, shortly before he suspended his campaign.[13] She said that she was one of several people who Platner was talking with.[14]
Geiger announced on July 13 that she would not be a candidate to replace Platner, and endorsed Shenna Bellows.[15]
Personal life
[edit]Geiger is married to Greg Marley, former director of suicide prevention at the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Geiger and Marley have one son.[16]
