Unit Image is a French animation and visual effects studio based in Paris. Founded in 2010, the studio specializes in computer-generated imagery (CGI), 3D animation and visual effects.[1][2]
History
[edit]Unit Image was founded in Paris in 2010 by Léon Bérelle, Dominique Boidin, Rémi Kozyra and Maxime Luère. The studio initially worked on computer-generated animation and visual effects for companies such as Oasis, Coca-Cola, Peugeot, and Canal+. It later began producing films and cinematics for the video game industry.[3][4][5]
Among the studio's early video game projects were cinematics for ZombiU and The Crew.[6] Unit Image subsequently worked on productions associated with franchises including Assassin's Creed, The Division, For Honor, Ghost Recon[7] and Beyond Good & Evil. In 2017, the studio produced the cinematic trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2, which was presented by Ubisoft at E3.[8]
Unit Image continued to produce video game cinematics and trailers for titles including Far Cry 6, Legends of Runeterra, Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, Star Wars Eclipse, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, Baldur's Gate 3 and Marvel Rivals.[9][10]
In 2019, Unit Image produced the episode "Beyond the Aquila Rift" for the Netflix animated anthology series Love, Death & Robots.[11][12] The studio returned to the series in 2021 with "Snow in the Desert", released as part of its second volume.
In 2024, Unit Image produced two episodes of the Amazon Prime Video animated anthology series Secret Level: "The Queen's Cradle", based on Dungeons & Dragons, and "The Once and Future King", based on New World.[13][14]
The studio has also worked on visual effects and computer-generated imagery for live-action productions. Among these projects was the 2024 film The Substance, directed by Coralie Fargeat.[15][16]
