Unit 840 is a specialized unit of the Iranian Quds Force responsible for recruiting foreign operatives and criminal mercenaries to carry out attacks abroad. The unit manages intelligence assets in target countries and maintains ties with criminal organizations and dormant local cells. Unlike Unit 400, which is described as conducting overseas special operations, Unit 840 is said to rely primarily on foreign operatives and local criminal networks to conduct kidnappings and assassinations of foreign civilians, including Israelis and government officials. Unit 840 is said to have been involved in attempted attacks against Israeli, Western, and Iranian opposition targets in countries including Albania, Colombia, Turkey, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.[1][2][3][4]
