Torrey C. Harris (born March 12, 1991) is an American politician serving as a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives from the 91st district.[1] Originally elected to represent the 90th district in 2020, he assumed office on January 12, 2021.
Alongside Eddie Mannis, Harris was one of the first two openly-LGBT state representatives elected in Tennessee.[2]

[edit]In 2020, Harris challenged longtime incumbent representative John DeBerry in the 90th state house district. DeBerry, who had been removed from the Democratic primary ballot due to ideological differences, registered to run as an independent. Harris defeated DeBerry with 77.3% of the vote.[3]
In 2022, Harris was redistricted to the 91st district, comprising much of Midtown and other east Memphis neighborhoods. He defeated a challenger in the Democratic primary before winning the general election uncontested.
Legal issues
[edit]On July 17, 2022, Harris was arrested for felony theft and misdemeanor assault, after police were called by Harris' ex-boyfriend.[4]
