Tony Rickards is an Australian comedian and actor,[1][2] who has worked in television, film, radio and theatre.[3]

Early life and education

Rickards studied commerce at the University of Melbourne, where he met comedian Steve Vizard. The pair began collaborating in the university comedy/revue scene, while they were members of the Melbourne Law Revue. This formed the foundations for an ongoing working relationship that subsequently spanned decades.[4]

Career

Rickards played lead roles in several films in the 1980s including Squizzy Taylor (1982),[3] The Great Gold Swindle (1984), Robbery (1985)[5] and Mud, Bloody Mud (1985).[6] In 1984, he featured in the miniseries Waterfront.[1] During this period, he also played Con Marasco in the radio series Punter to Punter for eight years[1][7][8]

Rickards' more recent television credits include drama series Wentworth, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, Winners & Losers, Tangle and comedy series Kath & Kim. He appeared in 2012 TV movie The Mystery of a Hansom Cab and 2015 miniseries Childhood's End.[3] He also voiced a judge in the television comedy series Superwog.

Rickards' feature film credits include The Craic (1999), Summer Coda (2010), The Cup (2011), Castaway, Holding The Man (2015), Pawno (2015) and The Menkoff Method (2016).[3]

Rickards' most recent theatre credits include Cock for Melbourne Theatre Company and Every Night Every Night for Frank Theatre Company. He has also performed in his own comedy stage shows at The Flying Trapeze and The Last Laugh,[3] including Tony Rickards Takes a Punt in 1985 at the latter.[2]
