Tim Bearder is a British Liberal Democrat politician who serves as Leader of the Oxfordshire County Council[1] since May 2026.[2]
Personal life
[edit]He was educated at Bicester Community College and Plymouth University before employment as a Broadcast Journalist with BBC News (Aug 2001 - Nov 2012), running The Download[3] which later became BBC Introducing in Oxfordshire.[4]
Political career
[edit]A Lib Dem councillor on Oxfordshire County Council and that council's leader since May 2026, Bearder has been an active Liberal Democrat[5] for many years[6] (including as Adult Social Care lead)[7] and stood for election 11 times.[8][9] This includes standing for Police & Crime Commissioner.[10] Actions since leading the county council have included withdrawing its support for the Thames Valley Mayoral Authority,[11] (reinvigorating that campaign by writing to Andy Burnham),[12] and successfully bringing an injunction[13] against Raise the Colours (organisation).[14] He has also served in Hampshire.[15][16][17]
