  1. NSW BDM Birth Record V18332812 45A/1833. His birthday is often incorrectly listed as 31 October 1832, based on announcements in two Sydney newspapers of a daughter born on that date. There is no known record of this female child being baptized, and it is presently assumed that she died soon after birth. Captain John Dibbs appears to have been at sea in early 1833 so the October 1832 birth date may have been used to avoid any scandal.
