The Perfect Lie (Korean: 라이어) is an upcoming South Korean psychological thriller television series written by Baek Jae-young, directed by Jo Young-min, and starring Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin. The series is scheduled to premiere on MBC TV in October 2026, and will air every Friday and Saturday.[1]
Synopsis
[edit]The Perfect Lie centers on the intense clash between two people who share a single memory of a critical event but hold completely opposite claims about what actually occurred.
Kang Ji-seon is a middle school art teacher whose life is thrown into chaos after a first date with Min Jun-ho, a brilliant cardiac surgeon. Following their encounter, a dispute arises regarding the truth of their shared night. The series follows their fierce pursuit of the truth as they navigate a web of conflicting memories and hidden motives, questioning the reliability of human perception.

- A highly skilled and respected cardiac surgeon. His life of precision and logic is challenged when he becomes embroiled in a dispute over a memory that threatens his professional and personal reputation.

- An art teacher at a middle school. She is a woman of strong conviction who refuses to back down when her version of the truth is questioned, leading to a psychological war of nerves with Jun-ho.
Production

[edit]The series was first announced in late 2025 as a joint production between Kakao Entertainment and its subsidiary Zip Cinema. Director Jo Young-min, who gained international praise for his delicate emotional direction in Do You Like Brahms? (2020) and The Interest of Love (2022), was confirmed to lead the project. The script is written by Baek Jae-young.[2]
Casting
[edit]In December 2025, it was confirmed that Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin would reunite as lead actors eight years after their collaboration in Dr. Romantic.[2]
