The Devourer (Spanish: La devoradora) is a 1946 Mexican crime drama film directed by Fernando de Fuentes and starring María Félix, Luis Aldás and Julio Villarreal.[1][2][3] It was shot at the Azteca Studios in Mexico City. Plot
[edit]Diana de Arellano (María Félix) is a calculating femme fatale who ruthlessly manipulates men for financial and social advancement. She secures an engagement to the wealthy, elderly Don Adolfo Gil (Julio Villarreal), a man with a severe heart condition whose fortune she intends to inherit. On the eve of her wedding, her impoverished young lover, Pablo Ortega (Felipe de Alba), confronts her regarding the opportunistic arrangement. Despondent over Diana's cold indifference, Pablo commits suicide inside her residence.
To prevent a public scandal that could jeopardize her marriage prospects, Diana conceals the tragedy and utilizes her manipulative charms to orchestrate a cover-up. She involves both her wealthy fiancé and his infatuated nephew, Miguel Iturbe (Luis Aldás), convincing them to help her clandestinely dispose of Pablo's corpse. Following the successful concealment of the body, Diana shifts her romantic attention toward Miguel, seducing him despite her active commitment to his uncle. As Miguel becomes deeply ensnared in her web of deception, he grows increasingly tormented by guilt and his knowledge of the cover-up, while Diana continues to ruthlessly exploit the family's assets and emotional stability.
