Pre or plain

[edit]

The problem with <pre> tags is that they don't wrap long lines and require considerable horizontal scrolling to see the content, very much deprecated by modern web designers. The dotted-border div that the wiki-software adds (and then allows the text to go beyond) is another aberration that needs consigning to the dustbin of failed web design.

For anything that's meant to be an example, 'pre' is an epic fail. I'll restore the example to a more amenable format. --RexxS (talk) 13:54, 30 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

white-space: pre-wrap; has been repeatedly proposed but rejected. Anyway, for lack of anything better, this will have to do. Edokter (talk) — 17:49, 8 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Use Module:Main page image

[edit]

See Talk:Main Page#Plan for implementation for more detail. I have tested this at Template:TFLcontent/sandbox. See results at Template:TFLcontent/testcases.

Request: Replace 120x120px

with {{#invoke:Main_page_image|width|{{Remove file prefix|{{{image|{{{1<noinclude>|Example-serious.jpg</noinclude>}}}}}}}}}}

ProcrastinatingReader, please check above request for accuracy. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 12:07, 26 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Mostly looks good to me! Just a small note that this template doesn't accept unnamed params (or have a default image for viewing it here), so it shouldn't need the {{{1<noinclude>|Example-serious.jpg</noinclude>}}}}}} part. I've applied this change to the sandbox. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 13:13, 26 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
ProcrastinatingReader, thanks!
To template editor, please:
Replace 120x120px
with {{#invoke:Main_page_image|width|{{Remove file prefix|{{{image}}}}}}} --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 14:41, 26 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Please copy over the sandbox version, which implements a new template to better handle the display of featured topics in TFL. More information on the rationale of this change can be found at WT:TFL. Documentation on the new template can be found here, and this template's testcases page can be checked to see the impact of this change. Thanks. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 06:09, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

No opposition had been expressed, so I will implement this shortly  Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:30, 29 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Spillover

[edit]

Follow up from WP:ERRORS. Seems like this may be a recurring problem, that when there is a portrait oriented image here it can spill over in to the next section. Ping to @Giants2008: that works in this area much more than me for any input. I added a section clearing break in to Wikipedia:Today's featured list/June 13, 2022 as an immediate one-day fix, but this may need more long-term solutions. — xaosflux Talk 15:25, 13 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

This may be related to changes in Wikipedia:Main Page/styles.css - I left a message at User talk:Izno to ask up on this as a first step. — xaosflux Talk 23:51, 13 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
