Editprotected request

Odd behavior

Why is "[{{{2}}}]" on the template. Seems to be an error. It also does not behave the same in IE and FF and behaves inconsistently. Play with it with the Scouting and William Shakespeare articles. Rlevse 19:59, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Debugging usage at Andromeda galaxy

Would someone please assist debugging the usage at Andromeda galaxy? The notes at the bottom properly link back to their cites (i.e. a, b, c, and d) however, going the other direction from the footnote to the citation does not link correctly, clicking does not take you there. Could this be a browser issue? I'm using firefox v2.0.0.12 I notice that the java popup shows the correct destination, but a click fails to go there, apparently not finding the tag. WilliamKF (talk) 22:03, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Inelegant

I realize that it takes all kinds, but I find separate listing of text from purely reference footnotes inelegant and distracting. I don't find that I am alone in this BTW. I think it's use should be discouraged in the explanation. Student7 (talk) 17:50, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

extended highlighting, slightly different

Rather than creating a solid block of light blue when there are multiple lines of highlighted text, the extended highlighting effect for this template highlights only the lines of text, leaving a white space between lines of text. The resulting display is a bit dizzying. Could that be readily fixed, or would it be a pain? • Ling.Nut 05:44, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

The reason for this behavior is that the template here uses a span tag instead of a div tag. CSS for span tags only applies to the text, not to space between the lines of text. We could change this template to use a div tag instead, but we'd have to check the various stylesheets to see if they directly refer to the span tag. — Carl (CBM · talk) 17:07, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Bad examples

Several examples here use a leading colon to mark up unbulleted lists. This is contrary to MOS:NOBR (it creates description list descriptions with no terms, which is invalid HTML) and sets a bad example to editors. These examples should use proper lists instead, using wiki markup (* for bulleted, * wrapped in {{plainlist}} for unbulleted, # for numeric ordered) or template-structured lists such as {{unbulleted list}}, {{unordered list}}, {{ordered list}}.
