Quotation marks

[edit]

Does this template require quotes to use quotation marks or not? The template does not appear to address this, but the example shows that it is used without, like a block quotation. Meanwhile, in actual practice, users tend to use one style or the other. Which is correct? Viriditas (talk) 20:55, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

The template documentation links to MOS:BLOCKQUOTE, which says: "The text presented in block quotations and quote boxes (see below) should not itself be enclosed in quotation marks". You are welcome to edit the template documentation to make it clearer. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:16, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I came here because of the quote box in this article. I don't think it is clear to have the instructions for template usage linked in an altogether different article. Viriditas (talk) 21:18, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Added to documentation. Viriditas (talk) 21:23, 30 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Unreadable in dark mode

[edit]

The quote box at the start of Nayirah testimony#Tom Lantos is unreadable, save for "—Tom Lantos' response to MacArthur". HKLionel TALK 13:31, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Screw that, it was the 1st box I read on the page. Every quote box is unreadable save for the origin. HKLionel TALK 13:33, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Fixed. Not a problem with this template's code. Just bad choices by an editor filling in parameters. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:18, 12 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oops, missed that! Thanks :) HKLionel TALK 16:17, 26 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Misuse of <cite>

[edit]

This template uses <cite>...</cite> for the entire attribution line, but per HTML Standard § The cite element, <cite> is only for the titles of works. {{Lemondoge|Talk|Contributions}} 15:11, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to experiment with Template:Quote box/sandbox and check your results at Template:Quote box/testcases. (Also, I have fixed a couple of technical issues in your posting.) – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:41, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
