If you have a browser that shows the external link icon () then you can set any IMDb links to show its own icon ()

Check out m:Help:User style for more info on CSS selectors.

Edit your "User:{your login}/monobook.css" (replace {your login} with your username) and add:

#bodyContent a[href *="imdb.com/"],
#bodyContent a[href *="imdb.co.uk/"] {
	background: url(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/53/IMDb_external.png) center right no-repeat;
	padding-right: 13px;
}

Once you save the page, you may need to hold Shift and click Reload.

Please see help on m:Help:User style

Consensus Needed: Converting "Template:IMDb name"'s logic to Lua.

[edit]

Final consensus result: None as of now.

Message:

I am suggesting the replacement of the IMDb Name's Template Logic With A Lua Implementation, in order to modernise the template and provide faster speeds.

Suggested Implementation:

Module:Sandbox/Mant08/IMDb name

Any recommendations/opinions in the case the suggested implementation is chosen to be used, for improvements, are welcomed.

More information can be found at the suggested module's page and in the previous Protected Template Edit Request Titled: "Template-protected edit request on 26 March 2026". Mant08 (talk) 15:45, 7 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I think that I oppose this change. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. You claim that a lua implementation will provide faster speeds. Show us evidence to support that claim. Given that this template is typically used only once in an article, show us evidence of a need for 'faster speed'.

I agree with Trappist. This template almost always is used only once. It should never be used as a reference. I'm actually perfectly fine if misuses of this template as a reference cause the page to load up slow. That will alert editors that they should remove the misuses. @Trappist the monk I didn't suggest the change due to noticing specific slowdowns, I just thought a more modern implementation (Anyone correct me if I am wrong, but from what I read, Wikipedia now promotes Lua for templates), could provide the advantages of modern technologies to the template, for example: better flexibility, cleaner implementation by using programmatic schemas, potentially better performance?, so I thought, why not? IMDb (identifier) intended? But not wanted?

[edit]

I don't see the point of it, would like to get rid of the piping added with this edit. comp.arch (talk) 18:34, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
