Template update

Per a discussion at WikiProject Ships, I've updated this template to use {{ship}} as a meta-template. The changes were tested in the template sandbox and the template testcases page. Anachronistic Usage

His Majesty's Brittanic Ship/Schooner was used in the late 1700s, predating the use of His Majesty's Ship. In the case of the ship Gaspee, I can find references to the ship name in longform as, His Britannic Majesty's Schooner Gaspee but not as HBMS Gaspee.<ref>Bartlett, A History of the Destruction of His Britannic Majesty's Schooner Gaspee, in Narragansett Bay, on the 10th June, 1772: Accompanied by the Correspondence Connected Therewith; the Action of the General Assembly of Rhode Island Thereon, and the Official Journal of the Proceedings of the Commission of Inquiry, on the Same. Non-breaking spaces

The "_" (underscore) character is converted into a non-breaking space. This leads to some long titles that do not have breaks in them. I noticed this on the 1773 page. On January 17 the template was used for HMS Resolution (1771) and there was excessive white space at the end of the line before the link. Changing the template to a link fixed this, though this should not be necessary. Mike32065 (talk) 01:03, 10 November 2022 (UTC)

This template should always be {HMS}.

The template should never have been moved from [Template:HMS] to [Template:His Majesty's Ship]. It doesn't expand to "His Majesty's Ship". It's an abbreviation that anyone could look up.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHY would someone rename ~ 67 templates to make their standard forms into redirects to longer forms that no one ever uses?? Was this large undertaking even discussed anywhere???
