Isn't the isocortex and neocortex the same thing. Also the template seems to indicate the Allocortex is the same as the neocortex but I thought this encompassed the other types and NOT the neocortex? 89.168.8.41 (talk) 18:03, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

- Ugh, I thought that would be much easier than it was. Cortex is made up of isocortex (6 layers) and allocortex (less than six layers). Isocortex broadly corresponds to Neocortex. There is true isocortex and proisocortex, which as far as I can tell still has six layesr. Allocortex corresponds to archicortex and paleocortex. There is also a periallocortex and mesocortex which may be seperate structures, as there is also a periarchicortex, which apparently corresponds to most of the periallocortex except Brodmann 16, which implies that periallocortex al least isn't part of archicortex. I think the table might need restructuring to make it clear what is a synonym and what is a subdivision, and what is a sub-subdivision. Keepstherainoff (talk) 15:22, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- The Braininfo site states that the neocortex comprises two types of cortex - the true isocortex and the proisocortex. I should think that this site is up to date and that template needs to be amended. Iztwoz (talk) 14:26, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
