Redirects in nav boxes

I've replaced the fixes I previously made to the redirects in this navigation template, per the advice in WP:NAVNOREDIRECT. Navigation templates are meant to lead to articles, not through redirects to articles. When redirected, the navigation template won't embolden the page it landed on because it links to the redirect, not the actual landing page. I think it's pretty clear that the redirects shouldn't be here. -- Mikeblas (talk) 01:31, 21 January 2023 (UTC)

Regarding File compression vs. Data compression, these terms do not actually mean quite the same thing. File compression uses Data compression, but the concept of Data compression does not include the nature of the compressed data being stored in a file.

Also, while WP:NAVNOREDIRECT suggests that "it is usually preferable not to use redirected links in navigational templates, such as those found at the bottom of many articles", the fact is that Data compression doesn't even include this Computer_files template at all, so this is completely irrelevant.

As such, the following item in WP:DONOTFIXIT seems the most relevant aspect, considering that these terms are not the same and tracking the use of the proper term would be helpful.

Reasons not to bypass redirects include:

• Non-piped links make better use of the "what links here" tool, making it easier to track how articles are linked and helping with large-scale changes to links.

Regarding NTFS junction point vs. NTFS links, here also the two terms do not mean the same thing, but it is even more distinct here because a junction point is explicitly only one type of NTFS link. This is even specified in the redirect page itself by pointing to the #Types section of the page, not the page itself.

As such, the redirect should be used to refer specifically to NTFS junction point, because this template already specifies a completely different section referring to linking in general: "Linking", while the junction point is being specifically called out as a reference to a directory specific concept in the section "Organization".

The mere fact the "NTFS links" does not refer to the same target as "NTFS junction point", where the latter points to a section on that page, means this is not a change of the use of a redirect, but a change in the target concept the link is intended to refer to.
