Option for inline use?
[edit]The |inline=yes parameter used in the original Template:Botanist doesn't seem to work with this template, so I was wondering if there's a way to format this template inline and, if not, if that could be implemented. Cheers, Ethmostigmus 🌿 (talk | contribs) 08:56, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Only tangentially related, but I'll mention it here to avoid creating a new section: I've just attempted to use this template at T. K. G. Herzog and the citation appears to be broken. - It seems that although IPNI has a form for an author search ("Advanced Search" → "Authors"), the URL that used to go to it no longer works, so I've just used the IPNI home page.
{{Botanist2}}needs re-working to match{{Botanist}}. Peter coxhead (talk) 11:37, 23 January 2025 (UTC)- @Ethmostigmus: I've reworked the template, and both inline and the citations seem to be ok now. - Thanks so much for fixing that Peter, much appreciated :) IPNI lists Herzog's preferred standard form as Herzog, with Herz. listed in the "Alternative Abbreviations" section and attributed to TL-2 - this was the abbreviation previously listed in the article, sourced to Brummitt, R. K.; C. E. Powell (1992). Authors of Plant Names. Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. ISBN 1-84246-085-4., though this fails verification - upon checking the book through Google Books I found that, on page 271, T. K. G. Herzog's abbreviation is listed as Herzog. That said, its inclusion in TL-2 (and the apparent absence of any other authors who've used Herz.) makes me inclined to include it in the article, but happy to leave it out if you believe it's not worth including.
