Template:World Bridge Federation/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Template:World Bridge Federation displays an external link to a contract bridge player's international record at WorldBridge.org, a website of the World Bridge Federation (WBF), which is the international governing body for contract bridge. The template is usually placed in the "External links" or "References" section of the player's Wikipedia article.

Usage

[edit]
  • Omit the ID to use the Wikidata property
  • Omit the NAME to use the Wikipedia article name as link text
  • Omit the ACCESS DATE to use the template as an external link
  • The shortcut {{WBF}} may be used in place of {{World Bridge Federation}}
Unnamed parameters
{{World Bridge Federation|ID}}
{{World Bridge Federation|ID|NAME}}
{{World Bridge Federation|ID|NAME|ACCESS DATE}}
Named parameters
{{World Bridge Federation|id=ID}}
{{World Bridge Federation|id=ID|name=NAME}}
{{World Bridge Federation|id=ID|name=NAME|access-date=ACCESS DATE}}

Parameters

[edit]
  1. |id=
    The ID number in the URL, such as 1122 in http://www.worldbridge.org/people/person.asp?qryid=1122 (archived) or http://db.worldbridge.org/Repository/peopleforscrap/person.asp?qryid=1122. This parameter is optional if Wikidata property P3172 exists, but required if not. If not provided, the template will attempt to fetch it from Wikidata.
  2. |name=
    The link text, which should be the name of the athlete. This parameter is optional when the template is used in the player's Wikipedia article; it defaults to the article name, without any disambiguation such as "(bridge)". It should be provided if the template is used other articles.
  3. |access-date=
    The "access-date" parameter (or unnamed parameter "3") is for use in references.

How to find the "id"

[edit]

One of the following methods may be used to find a player's WBF page and determine the id number:

  1. Go to the WBF People Finder at www.worldbridge.org (or the page at db.worldbridge.org) and search for the player's surname. If the surname is unknown, try different parts of the known name separately.
  2. Use a web search engine such as Google or Bing (examples for Rixi Markus):
    Google search: Rixi Markus site:worldbridge.org
    Bing search: Rixi Markus site:worldbridge.org

The id number for the person can be seen at the end of the URL, such as 1122:

http://www.worldbridge.org/people/person.asp?qryid=1122 (archived)
http://db.worldbridge.org/Repository/peopleforscrap/person.asp?qryid=1122

Examples

[edit]
[edit]

When only the first unnamed parameter (or "id") is used, the link text includes the article name.

* {{WBF | 1122 }}
  • "International record for World Bridge Federation/doc". World Bridge Federation.
* {{WBF |id= 15589 }}

When the article name is different than the player's name, the second unnamed parameter (or "name") should be included.

* {{WBF | 1122 | Rixi Markus }}
* {{WBF |id= 15589 |name= Charles Goren }}

Citation

[edit]

When the template is being used as a citation, the third unnamed parameter (or "accessdate" or "access-date") should be included.

{{WBF | 1122 | Rixi Markus | September 14, 2012 }}
"International record for Rixi Markus". worldbridge.org. World Bridge Federation. Retrieved September 14, 2012.
{{WBF |id= 15589 |name= Charles Goren |accessdate= 29 December 2016 }}
"International record for Charles Goren". worldbridge.org. World Bridge Federation. Retrieved 29 December 2016.
{{WBF |id= 15589 |name= Charles Goren |access-date= 2016-12-29 }}
"International record for Charles Goren". worldbridge.org. World Bridge Federation. Retrieved 2016-12-29.

No parameters

[edit]

When no parameters are included, the template will use the player's ID from Wikidata or display an error message.
