Usage

The {{WikiProject Former countries}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the Former countries WikiProject. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

General parameters

• class – This WikiProject follows Project-Independent Quality Assessment. Please add valid |class= values to {{WikiProject banner shell}} instead of this WikiProject. Valid class values can be found at Wikipedia:Content assessment.
• attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
  • This parameter populates Category:Former country articles needing attention.
• infoboxneeded – set |infoboxneeded=yes if the article requires an infobox.
  • This parameter populates Category:Former country articles without infoboxes.
• structureneeded – set |structureneeded=yes if the article requires restructuring.
  • This parameter populates Category:Former country articles requiring restructuring.
• flagneeded – set |flagneeded=yes if the article requires a flag image to be added and placed within the infobox.
  • This parameter populates Category:Former country articles requiring a flag.
• coatneeded – set |coatneeded=yes if the article requires a coat of arms image to be added and placed within the infobox.
  • This parameter populates Category:Former country articles requiring a coat of arms.
• mapneeded – set |mapneeded=yes if the article requires a map to be added and placed within the infobox.
  • This parameter populates Category:Former country articles requiring a map.
• listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for John Doe, use |listas=Doe, John so that the talk page will show up in the D's and not the J's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter.   If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
• category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.

Task forces and other supported WikiProjects

• AH-taskforce – set |AH-taskforce=yes if the article is supported by the Austria-Hungary task force.
  • This parameter populates Category:Austria-Hungary task force articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Austria-Hungary articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • AH-taskforce-importance (only used if |AH-taskforce=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within the Austria-Hungary task force
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Austria-Hungary articles by importance.
• EB-taskforce – set |EB-taskforce=yes if the article is supported by the Empire of Brazil task force.
  • This parameter populates Category:Empire of Brazil articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Empire of Brazil articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • EB-taskforce-importance (only used if |EB-taskforce=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within the Empire of Brazil task force
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Empire of Brazil articles by importance.
• HRE-taskforce – set |HRE-taskforce=yes if the article is supported by the Holy Roman Empire task force.
  • This parameter populates Category:Holy Roman Empire task force articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Holy Roman Empire articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • HRE-taskforce-importance (only used if |HRE-taskforce=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within the Holy Roman Empire task force
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Holy Roman Empire articles by importance.
• Italy-taskforce – set |Italy-taskforce=yes if the article is supported by the Italian historical states task force.
  • This parameter populates Category:Italian historical states articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Italian historical states articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • Italy-taskforce-importance (only used if |Italy-taskforce=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within the Italian historical states task force
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Italian historical states articles by importance.
• Ottoman – set |Ottoman=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Ottoman Empire.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Ottoman Empire articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Ottoman Empire articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • Ottoman-importance (only used if |Ottoman=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Ottoman Empire
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Ottoman Empire articles by importance.
• Prussia – set |Prussia=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Prussia.

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
