Template:Smile/doc

This template is intended to put a smile on somebody's user talk page.

It starts by saying "Hello" and then adding the name of the page it's posted to, without the namespace (i.e. "Talk"). Meaning that if you post this anywhere else than on the talk page of a user, you will probably not get what you want.

Usage

{{subst:Smile}}

Note: it is important to subst, because if the template is entered simply as {{smile}}, the name shown before the words "has smiled at you!" will be that of the last user to post on the page, not the user who left the message.

This posts the smile at a recipients page, adding your user name as the person having smiled and also adding your signature to the end of the message.

{{subst:Smile|Beginning signature|Ending signature}}

• Unnamed parameter 1 (optional): Beginning signature. If not supplied defaults to ~~~ (your user name, see WP:3TILDES)
• Unnamed parameter 2 (optional): Ending signature. If not supplied defaults to ~~~~ (your signature, see WP:4TILDES)

{{subst:Smile|[[User:Example User]]|~~~~}}

If you need to supply another user's signature, for instance when you post this smile on behalf of somebody else, you can do so.

{{subst:Smile|2=Ending signature}}

Use unnamed parameters to supply only an ending signature.

Examples

• Recipient - Automatically changes to the User Name of the person you're giving the smile to.
  • (Recipient is the User Name of the talk page where the template is being placed.)
• Example User - Your User Name.
  • Wikipedia will automatically enter Your User Name, when BOTH optional parameters are removed (See first example}.
  • Wikipedia will also automatically enter Your User Name, if you type either ~~~ or ~~~~.
