Bitch and Pups islands is the correct name for the location found at co-ords 34°56′39.4″S 143°20′8.4″E. This is marked as it is an infamous section of river said to be impassable at low water because of the many reefs, snags, rocks and narrow passages. It is an old name believed to be referring to a mother (big island) and her pups (smaller islands & rocks)

2508 kilometres long. Almost 2000 km is navigable. Third longest navigable river in the world (after Amazon and Nile)
