Template:Formatted link/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Usage

[edit]

This template creates a wikilink with formatted text to an article whose title cannot have that formatting due to MediaWiki limitations.

For instance, when editing articles linking to Student's t-test, manually formatting the link usually looks like

Student's -test

where mvar is used to produce an italicized math-font variable-name style, and itco uses CSS to provide slight kerning space after italics.

As a meta-template

[edit]

This template is mostly useful as a meta-template, in order to define convenience templates for simple text-replacement for editors.

Compare the above example to using this template: . While that is a minimal benefit, using this as a meta-template to define a more convenient template:

Example convenience template usage Result
Student's t-test
Student's t-test
Student's t-testStudent's t-test
[edit]

By default, this template generates a link. The |link= parameter can override this.

When using this as a meta-template to define a convenience template, declare the default link/nolink behavior as such:

Link default Syntax
Yes {{Formatted link|formatted text|link={y}}}
No {{Formatted link|formatted text|link={n}}}
