Template:Fandom content
Supply a "site name" and an "article name" (see help page)
Many wikis hosted by Fandom license their text content under CC BY-SA 3.0, which is compatible with Wikipedia. Those text can be copied into Wikipedia, provided adequate attribution is given. This template is used to fulfill the attribution requirements.
The Wikipedia plagiarism guideline recommends that attribution is placed in the references section under a bold Attribution statement. It is also recommended to indicate the text import in the edit summary.
Only wikis that display "Community content is available under CC-BY-SA unless otherwise noted." in the page footer use CC BY-SA 3.0. If it says "CC-BY-NC", "CC-BY-NC-SA" or "CC-BY-NC-ND", those content must not be used on Wikipedia unless copyright holders' permission can be obtained.
Usage

The parameters sitename= and article= must be set or a red warning is displayed. The older parameter articlename= is still allowed.
The "date" parameter should be set to the date that this template is first used. If it is not set by hand then it will be set by a bot (see AWB:Dated templates).
The"datecopied" parameter should be date the copy was made, but if it is not set or is set to empty then the value of the "date" parameter is displayed. This is a fall back position so that someone else knows the most recent date of where to start look at the history of the articles for the date when the material was copied into Wikipedia.

Notes
[edit]The Wikia licence terms are modelled after Section 7 of the Wikimedia Foundation Terms of Use. The relevant text reads:

Each wiki contains information on which license applies to your use of the text. It is your responsibility to understand and adhere to that license. Text from external sources may attach additional attribution requirements to the work beyond what is described on this page.
When re-using Fandom text that has been posted subject a Creative Commons license, you must provide attribution to the authors using one of the attribution methods described in the section above titled “Attribution.”
Attribution example when re-using Fandom content on your own website:
- This article uses material from the "Endor" article on the Star Wars wiki at Fandom (formerly Wikia) and is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License.
Off-wiki content (for example, emails, IRC chats, off-wiki forums) should not be assumed to be released under this license if this is not explicitly stated.
Wikia's default license switched from GFDL to CC BY-SA 3.0 on June 19, 2009, a few days later than Wikimedia projects' switch. Unlike Wikipedia, Wikia chose not to continue applying GFDL to new content after that. Old GFDL content before the switch is dual-licensed with GFDL and CC BY-SA 3.0.
