This template provides a quick, standard method of citing Grove Art Online for art-related articles in Wikipedia.
It is a wrapper around the standard citation template {{cite encyclopedia}}. As such it fills out some {{cite encyclopedia}} parameters, but the full range of parameters provided by WP:CS1 are available. To change the appearance of the output to that of {{citation}} use the parameter |mode=cs2.
Usage
[edit]All parameters apart from |title= are strictly speaking optional:

However, it is strongly encouraged to include at least |last1=, |first1=, |date=, |title=, and |url= (or |doi= or |id=). If the citation is to be used in an article via {{sfnp}} (or {{harvp}}, {{sfn}}, {{harvnb}}) the |date= is essential, since these templates can't "see" through to this Grove template's publication date that is generated later.
The syntax with typical parameters is as follows:

It is however discouraged, as in the last example above, to use the |author= parameter when both last name(s) and given name(s) are known: use |last1= and |first1= instead.
As an alternative to |url= and/or |doi=, |id= can be used (|id= should contain the end part of the doi—after the last decimal point).

The |id= parameter can not be used when the part of the doi identifier before the last decimal point is not "gao/9781884446054.article"
