Template:Circular reporting/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When to use

[edit]

Use this tag if an inline citation to a source is given, and you suspect that the source is quoting material first published in Wikipedia. If that is the case, this is a situation of circular reporting or "citogenesis", and the cited sentence can not be verified from the source.

This version of the template is for situations where the circular reference is not confirmed. If the source is clearly quoting or referencing Wikipedia, use {{Circular reference}} instead.

To verify the reliability of the source, discover when the fact was first added to the Wikipedia article with the Blame tool (or use this older, stronger version), and try to find a source that supports the fact and was published before that date.
