Tatzat (also known as Tatzati) is a village in the Vergo administrative unit of Delvinë Municipality, in Vlorë County, southern Albania.
History
[edit]The settlement has historical references dating to the Ottoman period. Ottoman registers of the Delvinë sanjak from 1551 and 1583 record a settlement named Paprat-Tatzat. According to a transcription of these registers, Paprat-Tatzat was recorded in 1551 as a mahalle (quarter) associated with the village of Turnik, and by 1583 it was recorded as a separate village. The 1551 register records 23 households, while the 1583 register records 10 households.[1]
The registers also document agricultural production in the area, including wheat, barley, oats, olives, fruit, flax and vegetables.[1]
Geography
[edit]Tatzat is located in the Vergo administrative unit of Delvinë Municipality, in Vlorë County. The village is situated in the mountainous interior of southern Albania.
The surrounding area includes natural and geological features associated with the Tatzat locality, including springs and caves.
Administration
[edit]Tatzat is part of the Vergo administrative unit within Delvinë Municipality. Prior to the 2014 administrative-territorial reform, Vergo was organized as a commune.
Following the reform, Albania's former communes were reorganized into administrative units within municipalities. Vergo became an administrative unit of Delvinë Municipality under Law No. 115/2014.[2]
Notable people
[edit]Ismail Haki Tatzati (1878–1945) was an Albanian military officer and politician who served as Minister of War in the Albanian government during the early 1920s.[3]
