Tango Technology, Inc., commonly known as Tango, is an American software company that develops a digital adoption platform for documenting, guiding and automating browser-based workplace processes.[1][2] Its software records actions performed in web applications and converts them into editable step-by-step guides containing screenshots and descriptions.[3]
The company was founded in 2020 by Ken Babcock, Dan Giovacchini and Brian Shultz.[4] Tango publicly launched its browser extension in September 2021.[5] In April 2025, the company launched an artificial intelligence service for automating parts of browser-based workflows.[6]
History
[edit]Tango was founded in 2020 by Ken Babcock, Dan Giovacchini and Brian Shultz, who left Harvard Business School to develop the company. Its initial product was a browser extension that recorded users' workflows and generated step-by-step documentation with screenshots.[4][3]
Before its public launch in 2021, Tango tested the extension with pilot customers.[4][5] At the time, the product focused on employee training, particularly for customer-support and sales teams, rather than workflow automation.[1] In August 2021, after initially being financed by its founders, Tango announced a $5.7 million seed funding round led by Wing Venture Capital.[4]
Tango publicly launched its browser extension in September 2021.[5] By June 2022, the software was available as both a Chrome extension and a desktop application. That month, the company introduced Workspaces, a shared library in which teams could organize, edit and share recorded workflows and folders. Tango also announced a $14 million Series A funding round led by Tiger Global Management.[7]
In April 2025, Tango launched an artificial intelligence service that expanded the platform beyond workflow documentation to include automation of browser-based tasks.[6]
Software
[edit]Tango uses a Chrome extension to record the steps performed by a user in a web-based application. It captures individual actions and screenshots, adds action labels and generates a step-by-step guide.[2] Generated guides can be edited, shared through a link, exported as a PDF or embedded in webpages and wikis.[3][2]
Tango's "Guide Me" mode presents a generated guide as an interactive overlay within a web application while the user performs the documented task.[2] Its automation service can perform selected steps in browser-based workflows. The service accepts workflow rules written in natural language and allows individual steps to be designated for either automated or manual completion.[6]
Reception
[edit]In 2022, Tango was named a Webby Awards honoree in the Apps and Software: Productivity, Financial Services & Banking category.[8] Google also included the Tango extension in its list of favorite Chrome extensions of 2022.[9]
