Introducing myself, announcing coming additions to the page
[edit]My name is Oliver, I am working for Zurich’s Group Media Relations, and I got asked to make additions to the page which I believe are factual and that help to increase the overall factual information of the company page for Zurich. I have prepared a set of amendments of which I am convinced will make the page more comprehensive, more useful, increase its relevance and quality.
But before I do, I wish to get in contact with the administrators, to find out whether or not they are in agreement with this very posting and the proposed approach. I wish to work with them in all transparency to make any revisions necessary. I will make revisions only when logged in with my user name. ZGMROM (talk) 07:48, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Just made the first change, corrected the number of employees to approx. 60'000 (from approx 58'000), which is what Zurich states in the press releases. ZGMROM (talk) 12:34, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- Go ahead, keeping WP:COI in mind. Your company has a history of attempting to censor the article in whatever way puts them in the most favorable light. Such edits will be deleted and the offending editor will be sanctioned up to and including a loss of editing privileges. Trusilver 19:17, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. I just changed the introduction paragraph now so that it matches the boilerplate used in news releases. This is a little more accurate, and it holds more core information of the company than the sentence used before. Let me know if it "sounds" too PR-ish and feel free to quench it if needed.
- Going forward, I don't think it makes sense to announce all changes I will be doing here on the discussion page. I will only do changes when logged in anyway, and I will of course regularly check this discussion page to make sure I am in line with WP:COI. ZGMROM (talk) 14:32, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Who is the user, Zurich Financial Services, who is making edits to this article?
[edit]Why is some user with the same name making edits to this article? Ronbo76 08:51, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Dear Ronbo76. Please let me know who you are. I am working in the Global Media Team in the Corporate Center of Zurich Financial Services and the Head of Global Communications ordered me to update the page in the way I did and I will have to change it back again. Please let me know what your motives are. editor of Zurich Financial Services
I work in Zurich North America. I'm pretty sure the acquisition of Universal Underwriters, Fidelity & Deposit, Colonial Amer. Cas. Co., and the Maryland Companies were later than 1976. I know they show up in loss triangles of more recent data.
History section
[edit]The history timeline was a direct copy of http://www.zurich.com/main/aboutus/history/chronology.htm, so I removed it as a copyright violation. --Finngall talk 16:45, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Dear Finngal I have put the history back in because first ZFS approved of putting it here and second it is not identical with the one of our homepage (it is longer). I also deleted the criticizm because it does not belong on this page. I am working in the Global Media Team in Corporate Center of Zurich Financial Services. Thank you for accepting these Changes. Lisa — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.28.224.33 (talk)
- I put criticism section back into the article. I'm sorry to inform you that the staff of ZFS does not determine what content goes in this article, any sourced material may be included regardless of whether or not it's 'inconvenient' to the PR staff at your company. Removing further referenced material will result in your editing privledges being blocked. Trusilver 16:10, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Zurich Financial.PNG
[edit]
Image:Zurich Financial.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
This article is very poor quality
[edit]I second what is being said about the self-promotion piece. The whole article still is a very low quality piece, if not a stub, given the size and complexity of the company. As a Zurich employee, I was told not to go beyond correcting factual errors. Isn't there a way Zurich can help to improve this article that would be compliant with Wikipedia’s rules/guidelines? I asked many people, searched different search engines, gone through WikiProject Companies, with no luck. ZGMROM (talk) 15:55, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
I deleted the Publicis self-promotion piece. It doesn't fit in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.5.53.233 (talk) 06:51, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
This is in no way a balanced or thorough article about Zurich Insurance. Zurich is a very large company, with a long history, and employs thousands of people. This page should be improved to a level of quality and content equivalent to the other large commercial carriers in the US and global market (such as AIG). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.252.74.48 (talk) 20:39, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Rename Page
[edit]Zurich Financial Services has recently changed it's name to Zurich Insurance Group. I've managed to rename all the pages, but the Spanish version which needs to be renamed from (Discuss) – 'Zurich Financial Serices → Zurich Insurance Group The page appears to be protected from a "page move" and I wondered if someone might be able to help me move it please?
Pruning
[edit]I've got rid of some of the more over-the-top marketing/publicity material to bring it more into line with other similar companies. It still looks a bit like a self publicity article, but not as bad as it was. MikesPlant (talk) 13:01, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- I have also replaced the Criticism section that appears to to have been 'accidentally' removed by the single purpose account that's been 'improving' the article. Trusilver 00:20, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Introducing myself
[edit]Hi everyone. I am working for Zurich Group Comms Social Media and am submitting edit requests regarding this article. In the interest of transparency, I am disclosing this connection in accordance with Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidance.
I have coordinated a review of the current article with relevant teams across the organization and identified a number of areas where information appears to be outdated, incomplete, or no longer reflective of the company's current structure, history, and operations. Based on this review, I would like to propose a series of updates supported by reliable sources to improve the factual accuracy and currency of the article.
In addition, I may suggest changes to the organization and structure of certain sections where I believe this could help readers better navigate the information presented. Any proposed changes will be submitted as edit requests on this Talk Page for review by independent editors and Wikipedia administrators.
I will make requests only while logged in as @Dominique.ritschard and welcome any feedback, questions, or revisions from the Wikipedia editing community and administrators. Dominique.ritschard (talk) 06:35, 19 June 2026 (UTC)

Company history proposed updates
[edit]Here are some of the updates proposed for the relevant items in the Company history section. Some sources are from our archives so I'm not sure if the citation below is enough. Please let me know if/how I can improve this information.
Founding and early expansion (1872–1997)
The company was established in 1872 as a reinsurance entity under the name "VersicherungsVerein", created to reinsure portions of the business of its parent company, the Schweiz Transport-Versicherungs-Gesellschaft — a transport and marine insurance company founded in 1869 by representatives of the transport and textile industries and the Schweizerische Kreditanstalt. (Source)
Commercial operations began on 1 May 1873. In 1875, accident insurance was added and the company was renamed Transport- und Unfall-Versicherungs-Actiengesellschaft "Zurich". In 1880, following a significant loss, the company withdrew from marine insurance. (Source)
By the turn of the twentieth century, the company had established operations in Denmark, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Prussia, Austria, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Russia, Italy, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein. In 1912, workers' compensation was transferred to the newly established public institution Swiss National Accident Insurance Fund (Suva), removing it from private insurers — a significant setback as workers' compensation had been a profitable line of business. (Source)
In 1915, Zurich acquired its first whole company, "Hispania Compañia General de Seguros" of Barcelona. (Source: Committee minutes (1915–1923), board minutes (1915–1923) — Zürich-Archiv ZAZ63732, ZAZ 62740). In 1922, Zurich founded "Vita Lebensversicherungs-Gesellschaft" as an independent life insurance subsidiary, which expanded into neighbouring countries. Branches were also established in the United Kingdom (London) and Canada (Toronto) during this period. (Source: Committee minutes (1915–1923), board minutes (1915–1923) — Zürich-Archiv ZAZ63732, ZAZ 62740) In 1925, Zurich became the official insurer of all new Ford vehicles in Great Britain. In 1929, the "Zurich Fire Insurance Company of New York" was founded, followed by reinsurance company Turegum in 1938, and the "American Guarantee and Liability Company in New York" in 1939. (Source)
In 1950, Zurich acquired a 95% stake in Companhia de Seguros Metrópole S.A. of Lisbon, Portugal. Between 1955 and 1992, several further companies were acquired, including Commonwealth General Assurance Corporation (Sydney), Iguazú Compañía de Seguros S.A. (Buenos Aires), Empire Fire and Marine Insurance Company (Nebraska), and Fidelity and Deposit Company (Maryland). (Source)

In 1996, Zurich completed the acquisition of 80% of Kemper Corporation and 97% of Kemper Financial Services; the remaining 20% of Kemper Corporation was acquired in March 1998. In 1997, Zurich acquired a majority interest in Scudder Kemper Investments. (Source)
Zurich Financial Services (1998–2012)
In September 1998, Zurich merged with the financial services business of B.A.T Industries to form Zurich Financial Services Group, comprising the Swiss company "Zurich Allied AG" (listed on the Swiss Market Index) and the British company "Allied Zurich plc" (listed on the FTSE 100). In 2000, the dual holding company structure was unified under a single Swiss holding company, "Zurich Financial Services", with a primary listing on the Swiss Stock Exchange and a secondary listing on the London Stock Exchange. (Source)
In 2002, the group refocused on its core insurance-related activities. Following a net loss of USD 3.4 billion in 2002, the group returned to profitability in 2003, reporting net income of USD 2.1 billion and business operating profit of USD 2.3 billion. (Source)
Zurich remained on track in 2004, reporting net income of approximately USD 2.6 billion and business operating profit of USD 3.1 billion, an increase of 36% over the prior year.
