new project asteroidzoo
[edit]-> http://www.asteroidzoo.org/ --Gravitophoton (talk) 09:03, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
Asteroid Zoo (AZ) was put on-hold/pause/archived (May 19, 2016). Ref-link: http://blog.zooniverse.org/2016/05/19/asteroid-zoo-paused/ . Personally I think AZ will not go active again, but that's a different subject. Time will tell. --MvGulik (talk) 16:44, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on Zooniverse (citizen science project). Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
- Added archive https://web.archive.org/20131014181243/http://www.nbcnews.com:80/science/engage-astronomers-need-your-assistance-detect-space-warps-1C9834636 to http://www.nbcnews.com/science/engage-astronomers-need-your-assistance-detect-space-warps-1C9834636
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true to let others know.

Suggestions and call for help in updating the Zooniverse wikipedia page
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi all,
I’m hoping someone might be willing to update the Zooniverse Wikipedia page to reflect its current status. Since I serve as the PI for Zooniverse, I understand it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to make direct edits. Instead, I’m sharing links and information here to guide potential updates. Please let me know how I can best support this process or if there are more appropriate or established channels for submitting updates.
Thank you!
Here's the list of items to consider. Your help is greatly appreciated.
1) The current first sentence is: Zooniverse is a citizen science web portal owned and operated by the Citizen Science Alliance.
The inaccuracy: Zooniverse is not owned or operated by the Citizen Science Alliance. The Citizen Science Alliance doesn't exist.
Potential edit: Zooniverse is a global platform for people-powered research, also known as participatory science or citizen science. It is a collaboration between Chicago’s Adler Planetarium, the University of Oxford, and the University of Minnesota.
Source: https://chicagoinnovation.com/winners/adler-planetarium/, https://www.zooniverse.org/about#how-it-works, https://www.zooniverse.org/about/team, https://www.zooniverse.org/get-involved/donate, https://www.adlerplanetarium.org/learn/all-ages/zooniverse
2) I'd like to provide a more recent number than what's provided in this sentence: "By March 2019, that number had reportedly risen to 1.6 million.[7]"
Potential edit: By October 2025, the number had risen to over 2.9 million.
Source: https://www.zooniverse.org/about (the number on that page is constantly updated as new registrations come in).
Or if it's better to use an external source from Zooniverse, you could cite the 2.7 million from March 2024 associated with news posts about our White House award: https://www.chicagostarmedia.com/people/adler-planetarium-s-zooniverse-platform-receives-award-from-white-house/article_10eb0d6e-ec4c-11ee-b71a-877a5a0f366c.html
Done used March 2024 source per WP:RS Encoded Talk 💬 20:00, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
3) Similarly, I'd really appreciate if we could update the number of publications. Current sentence "The data collected from the various projects has led to the publication of more than 100 scientific papers."
Potential edit: The data collected from the various projects has led to the publication of more than 450 peer-reviewed research publications.
(The reason to switch to the language of 'research publications' rather than 'scientific papers' is just to honor/reflect the Zooniverse humanities projects' publications by using the broader 'research' term).
Source: https://www.zooniverse.org/about/publications
4) I'm hoping this sentence can include more than just the DailyZoo: "A daily news website called 'The Daily Zooniverse' provides information on the different projects under the Zooniverse umbrella, and has a presence on social media."
Potential edit: The Daily Zooniverse and the Zooniverse Blog provide short and long-form posts about the platform, the projects, the community of volunteers and researchers, and their impacts. Zooniverse also has a presence on social media.
Source: https://daily.zooniverse.org/ and https://blog.zooniverse.org/
Not done for now do you have a secondary source for this? Thanks, Encoded Talk 💬 20:00, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
5) Please remove the Citizen Science Alliance section as it's no longer applicable.
Done
6) Would it be possible to move the 'Project Builder' section and the 'Mobile App section' above the list of projects? It's an incredibly useful resource for researchers and it's currently lost below the long list of projects.
Done
7) Wonderful if we can update the list of projects, but understandable if that's not feasible at this time (or not feasible to include the 500+ projects on this wikipedia page). Please see zooniverse.org/projects (and the active, paused, and finished tabs) Ltrouille (talk) 19:18, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
Not done for now It's all fine to add all this information, but since you are closely related to the subject, it is better that you make a COI (conflict of interest) edit request using the template {{edit COI}}. Theeverywhereperson (talk here) 08:42, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it. My understanding from Wikipedia:Conflict of interestis that COI edits are strongly discouraged and so I'd like to see if I can avoid that if possible. I'm reopening the thread to see if there are other options. It may be that I've created a COI just by posting in this thread.
- In any case, If I'm not able to avoid going the coi:edit route, I will follow your advice. Thank you again. Ltrouille (talk) 13:28, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Theeverywhereperson (talk here) 16:54, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
- You didn't create a COI by posting here; you already had one in the first place. If you directly edited the page, you would be violating the COI guideline. Since you are making an COI edit request instead, you're doing things perfectly fine :).
- I'll see if I can take a look at this if I have more time, but no guarantees (and fair warning, the request backlog's currently fairly high, hovering at around a month). In the meantime, let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to ping occasionally with reminders - I don't really mind extra notifications - but again, I'll be fairly busy for a bit, so. Cheers! - Hi there @Ltrouille - could you cite your references using inline citations throughout your proposed text (guidance outlined at Wikipedia:Citing sources#Inline citations and Wikipedia:Inline citation and/or try clicking the "cite" button in the editor)? Cheers, GoldRomean (talk) 00:53, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- Here are a couple of them. I'll try and add some more soon to help out; love this project! [1][2] Aluxosm (talk) 08:52, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Done Hi, I've responded to each individually. As for updating the projects, I think including every single project may violate WP:NOTDIR so I've not updated the list for now, I'd recommend compiling a list of notable projects with third-party, reliable sources and open a new edit request for this. Thanks, Encoded Talk 💬 20:02, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
