Early Web model
[edit]I added an "early web model" section to try to describe this paradigm that lots of people, including the majority of the Internet marketing sector, has taken for granted from about 1995-2020.
I did not cite any sources, and it does need source, but I did include wikilinks to the concepts.
If anyone has suggestions for an ideal source to cite and reframe this with someone's existing established narrative, then please suggest journalism or research which deconstructs or illustrates this model.
Someone could have documented and described this as early as the late 1990s. The idea that users go to a search engine and use that to access the open Web was established then and in many ways, has not changed. One detail that is more important now is observing that search engines used to position themselves as being distinct from providing content, whereas now in various ways they are more closed systems/walled gardens. With last generation technology, that just was not feasible, whereas now with generative AI it is much more within reach. Bluerasberry (talk) 15:30, 13 August 2026 (UTC)
