Zembra island was the boundary between the Roman and the Carthaginese Empires. Now it's a National Park (marine and terrestrial) and a Man & Biosphere UNESCO reserve. This hotspot of Mediterranean biodiversity hosts almost half of the global population of the Marine bird Cory's shearwater (10 000-15 000 couples), the highest world density of Peregrine falcon, rare and threatened plants, outstanding Reptiles and so on... In the 70's a touristic resort was built and was deserted few years later.
