IMHO the statement that Lene Hau used a Zeeman slower to stop light is misleading. She might have used a Zeeman slower to prepare an ultracold atomic cloud, but the processes she used to stop the light with in that cloud, had nothing to do with the Zeeman slower. In other words, any ultracold atomic cloud would have done the job, not matter if it hat been prepared with using a Zeeman slower or one of the many other available techniques.
