@Absolutiva: I am not sure what is the relevance of the diff you provided. This does not concern adding a link to Russian SFSR. I have already provided my rationale in my edit summary (the average reader does not know where the Western Oblast was located or any of the other second-level administrative divisions). You removed such mentions in this and this edit. There was also a RfC with no consensus to omit this. Can we please return to the status quo? Mellk (talk) 01:49, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Mike Novikoff proposed this previous edit for removing Russian SFSR that had no independent significance within the Soviet Union. Infoboxes should be concise. Because of this, specifying a small town such as Klushino and omitting Western Oblast is wrong, because it forces the reader to follow the link for the town that they might not know. There were 15 republics. This at least tells the reader which republic he was born/died in because the average reader knows where Russia is located or at least what it is. The average reader has no idea where Western Oblast was located, let alone what it is. The infobox documentation gives the first-level administration as an example (unless it is redudant) and I do not see how independence is relevant here because we are mentioning the administrative division within the sovereign state. Would it make sense to mention the U.S. county and not the state? In any case, I think "Russian SFSR" was the long-standing version but I am happy to discuss further. It is mentioned in the body, although we have MOS:IBP which is supposed to summarize key details. "Western Oblast" does not tell the average reader anything at a glance unlike "Russian SFSR". Then again, there is no consensus to omit the republic. No one would suggest including the county and not the state. Since "Russian SFSR" has been the long-standing version (from at least before 2021 and from 2022 to 2025) I would suggest returning to this version. Mellk (talk) 08:38, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
